Ooh good luck sharkey :) yay another baby on the way :D

I second RBG, in fact they said at our antenatal that often waters don't break until towards the end of the first stage so nothing to worry about there ((hugs)).
  • Wheeeee! Yay sharkey!!! Good luckkkkk!!! :D:D:D

  • Hi Sharkey, hugs and good luck!! No your waters dont have to break to have contractions, the midwife broke mine for me when I was 5 cm and in the throes of labour at hospital. Contractions can get quicker, closer together and stronger once your waters have gone, thats just my experience though.

Good luck, you'll be fine, remember, gas and air is your friend! xx

  • Thanks all. The contractions are getting a little closer together now and are lasting abit longer, cant believe this is finally happening, I think I am very bewildered by it all. I dont even know what I should be doing lol. Really should of thought about that 9 months ago. I have been willing bubs to come out for weeks and now that it looks like its happening, I just want to get her protected in my bump.lol does that sound silly? My stepmum has advised me to go for a hot bath, but im sure I read somewhere that that may stop the contractions??? So much advise that I dont even no what to do :(

I read that it can slow your labour down but if you're well on your way I don't think it will and maybe it will help ease the intensity of the contractions? The main thing is to do whatever keeps you comfortable xx

If you are less than 2 cm dialated it may stop the contractions which is why water births only allow wmen in the pool from 3 cms. However if you are in pain it is good pain relief so its a bit of a gamble tbh. Or at least thats my understanding from the reading I have been doing.

:fingers crossed: that this is it for you sharkeybabe!

Thanks for the info on MA all. Really appreciate it. I've paid my NI contributions up to 12/1/11 so I think I should be covered as the test weeks are 66 weeks before and I have to be working 26 of these with 13 weeks paid NI contributions. So I THINK if i've read it right I should be entitled to max benefit. *fingers crossed*

With DS my waters didn't break at all that I noticed. With DD there was loads. I was kept in hospital for 3 days before hand and all I remember is the 'pop' sound and then woosh! It went everywhere! And it was like a yellowey colour too. I tried desperately to make it to the loo (I had a private room) but all I did was make a bigger mess. It all went downhill from there cos the amount of fluid freaked me out and I think that was the start of DD going into distress and all I could think about was wanting a bath and all they could think about was getting the monitors on me! They let me have a 5 min bath (if that!) and then had me on a table monitoring me from there. All dignity was lost though as everyone in the room saw me nekkers lmao! :D

I really didn't care by that point either I might add! :D

ooooh! Good luck Sharkey! I'm sure we all freak out at the end but I think you will surprise yourself with how much you can cope with. Your bundle of joy will so be worth it in the end! Good luck for mummy cuddles soon!

Good luck Sharkey. You could try a couple of paracetemol and bounce on your ball if you have one. A bath would help a lot but I agree with waiting for a bit incase it slows things down.
If you do go for a bath wait until Mr S is back as I couldnt get back out mine once I was in lol.
Also, with DS my waters didnt break until I was pushing.
