  • Hello Lady bumps.

I have finally posted my birth story. Its quite epic but I have found it very theraputic typing it out.

Wesley and I are doing fine. We were (still are a bit) hit and miss with BF but were getting the hang of it.
Im desperatly uncomfortable with my stitches and cant actually stand for more than a minute but walking is ok.
We registered Wesley yesterday and decided on no middle names.
We also got him an Animal hoodie in the sale. 0-3 months £11.

Hope your all keeping well. I havn't looked back to check on new arrivals but congrats if there are some.

*Waves at OTE hiya chick glad you are doing better :) Wesley is a wee corker hehe might have a nosey at your birth story later (have actually read a couple, lol)

Morning all. Re hospital visitors. I'm likely to at hospital 40 min drive away. My mum doesn't drive but don't really want her out birth. So unless my brother brings her over after baby born she'll have to wait until I get home or OH brings her up the next day. My hospital leaflet says no children other than siblings. Are they usually strict on that? Just if OH brings mum up sil would want to come up with brother and there would be nobody to have niece and nephew, who I would actually want to see lol!

Our hospital are strict on this, they actually won't let them in if not a sibling of new baby. They are also quite strict on number of visitors at the bedside at one time, think it's 3, so in your case they wouldn't all be able to visit at same time anyway - best to check your hospitals guidelines.

So, can I have any opinions/experiences on sweeps please. I've been offered one, and am seriously considering it now.

I would go for it, no adverse effects that I know of so can only help. I had 5 sweeps last time round, but it never worked for me. But I know plenty of people who went into labour within 24hrs of a sweep.
It's a little uncomfortable, (as you can imagine for someone pushing their fingers so far in to do the job!) but only for the few seconds that it takes, as soon as it's over you don't feel it. That's my experience anyway.

I am having one on Wednesday (will be 40+1), as I said it can definitely help you along so worth a try, unless there's a reason why you are worried about it (you say seriously considering it now, like there was a reason you didn't want one, not sure if you mentioned it already and I missed it?)
  • I had a sweep, it was ok.

When I had DD1, two "dads" had a fistfight in the corridor over paternity of one of the babies. One good reason for a home birth!

Madbird - my hospital is strict on no kids under 12 other than siblings and max 4 visitors per bed

HM - I am teh sweep queen, lots of emergencies in when I was waiting to be induced so i had 3 sweeps in 36 hours to try get things going.. it didn't really but probably would of.

Thanks ot RBG for doing announcement.. Ava Catherine arrived wednesday morning at 7:36am 8lb 3. I was in hospital from 4pm Monday waiting to be induced, several sweeps and i was 6cms so at 4:45am they woke me to say there was a space in labour suite and would be taking me there to break my waters and then start drip to encourage contractions an they were phoning my husband to get him in. 6:20 they were ready to break waters and they said I was to rest for about 2 hours while they monitored baby and would start the drip after that. about 7am i started to feel contractions, asked for some G&A shortly after and some ice water then at 7:35 I said head was crowning, 7:36 she popped out onto the bed to an audience of 4 stunned midwives mid handover none gloved or aproned. One was a 1st year student at 18 and that was her first hands on birth and she just kept saying oh my god, that was unbelievable oh my god, i'm in shock which i found very amusing. Then the qualified MW had to 'fess up that my MIL had warned her i was being induced but she hadn't clicked with the name during handover it was only when DH says he remembers her and she has a son the same age as BIL that she clicks. I didn't cut or tear, no stitches needed and i didn't bleed so I had visitors 3pm that day and was out 1pm the next....

Silly girl, the only person allowed to say that stuff is you, and if you don't, then no one should.

  • Thanks for the replies on sweeps. The only reason I've been unsure is that several friends have said how uncomfortable they've been and how much they hated them, and I should avoid them if I can.

I don't have a problem with internal examinations (had plenty leading up to my laperoscopy, and a couple right at the start of my pg).

How do they compare to smear tests and dildo cams in terms of uncomfortableness (is that a word??). Is there a chance of my waters breaking during or shortly after? Don't want to look like I've wet myself walking back from the Drs :o

I think I will go with one, just to try and reduce the liklihood of being induced.

    Gorgeous baby LP :T

Less uncomfortable in my view than either smear or dildo cam.

They tend to put you on a towel during the sweep just in case, but I had mine at home, so maybe take some spare gear just in case.

My waters didn't break, in fact I don't remember them going at all, but they must have.

All these things are easier if you can help yourself by relaxing and doing your breathing exercises, I think.
