Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thur 3st Feb. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

Morning.

Another day and a load of wind and rain to look forward to for the next several days.

I guess I am going to be negative this morning. Having just seen the tax codes for 2011-12, I did not realize that the 40% tax threshold had been cut by a whopping 10 grand. Rises in NI etc, I cannot believe that i will be working harder for less.
Must be thankful I have a job and am not suffering, but sure makes a mockery out of working in this country.

My Birthday was great, thanks to everyone who posted!
My 10 oz Wetherspoons steak was pretty good. Bit tight on the chips, they are only potatoes after all, what a few extra?

Work today and then a relaxing evening in...

Have a good day everyone

    Morning Everyone

N9eav - I'm sorry to hear you are having a down day today, it's shocking that they can make you worse off for earning more?!?!?!

Hester - I hope nothing is said at your meeting which comes as a surprise, or effects you too much financially.

Today I have work... (only 9 weeks left!)

OH is cooking (heating up) dinner tonight as it's freezer pot luck (Thursdays are always manic so fast food is key). I have to go to the library (late opening tonight) get my son to cubs and try and get the food shopping done while he's there!

Just bought the rabbits some harnesses so they can start coming in the house again... we've missed not having them in the house... but it's amazing how small a gap they can squeeze through and how much damage they can cause in 30 seconds!!

I hope everyone has a good day x

    Good Morning
Re the tax codes. For those who are on the minimum wage or have a low income the tax code goes up so my DS (20) and DD (18) will earn more before being taxed. That has got to be fairer and will surely benefit your children N9eav!

Will post back later when my OS is visible to the naked eye xx

    Morning all

Just light here, looks dull and damp. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock.

The lamb hotpot was delicious last night I only had a tiny bit of meat, and had cauli and broccolli cheese with it.

Went to the garage to find out how much my car is going to cost to fix, way more than I think it should cost, so going to do a trawl round of other garages to see what they quote at, insurance has a £350 excess, if I can't get a good price it will stay as it is, I won't be ripped off!

Today will be all the normal chores, washing, drying, ironing, housework, want to try to get as much done as possible so I can get on with things I like doing and don't finish up spending the weekend and my days off next week doing them. Also need to do a meal plan and shopping list for tomorrow, will do a slightly different menu next week as off Mon and Tues but then have a meeting in the evening at DS1's school on Wednesday evening. May try to find a couple of different recipes so we can try something different as hopefully will have time to spend enjoying my cooking. Will also find time today or tomorrow to do some baking/cooking for the tins as they are bare at present. Am feeling quite proud at the moment, as I've always been able to make a reasonable sponge cake, but not able to make very good pastry, I've tried every recipe, every method, and just come to the conclusion that I can't do it - used food processors and made by hand etc. Then a friend said to try make it in my Kenwood mixer, so last week I tried - and it was much more successful, and DH said it tasted better, so hoping I've found a way to make it that suits me!

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Have woken up with a sore throat and the sniffles this morning, not great cos I have a hospital appointment today :(

I was naughty last night and had a mars bar OMG! I had a major sugar rush and it made me feel really ill so I will not be doing that again.......Ever!
So back on the low carb straight and narrow - it is surprising how much your body adjusts to low carb in a short time.

DS has just gone off to school :D

tappers I hope all went well yesterday ((((((Hugs)))))

N9eav Ouch ..... but DH is on BR so we will see a bit more in the pay packet and that is another £20 a week which will take his take home pay to £1,000 pm :j
Well I must get on, have breakfast and then get a shower.

    Morning All,

House tidy from yesterday. We had a lovely tea with clean plates all round and DB asked for my recipe for dessert (SIL can't cook, he does all the cooking)

Definitely need to tackle washing mountain this morning. Also have some dropping off at the charity shop and a friends and pick a parcel up from the sorting office which I hate cos there is always a big queue:(

Also need to pick up milk as I forgot yesterday. Don't think my feet will touch the ground today so will pop back in later.

HH good luck today. I can't say I miss the awful meetings I used to have to hold telling people bad news about hrs and jobs etc, hope its not too bad.

Chilli and rice for tea and leftover chocolate cake (shop bought):o oh the shame:rotfl:

    Have a great Thursday x

    morning all

a bit bleary eyed today as i was up and down all night with ds. the bug is working its way through the other end now :( has left his bottom so sore :( he's also woken with a cough, runny nose and a temp of 39. given him calpol which upsets his tummy at the best of times! he's lying on the floor at the moment with a blanket and his monkey. tried tempting him with a bit of toast but he didnt want it. ah well as long as he's drinking. have given him diarlyte (sp :o). we have a stash as last time he had a bug it went on for months. triggered a lactose intolerance (which he still has). fingers crossed he doesnt get it like that again :o

apart from that, i think it going to be a big clean day to get tid of this bug before me or the hubby succumb to it (hopefully!) all the bedding is currently going around in the machine on a hot wash.

not sure whats for dinner. shall have a rumage in the freezer

hope everyone has a good day
