Haslam Homes

Thanks Jamz.
It is hell, yesterday we were without electricity from 10am to 8.30 pm because haslam homes cut through an underground power line. Not fun when you have a 5yr old who's scared of the dark, we couldn't cook as our cooker is electric, we had no hot water or heat because there was no electric for the pump in the central heating system. It was pretty miserable last night.
We are getting really worried now because the gas is the next thing that they are going to be tinkering with, if they mess up on that the results could be disastrous0 -
Are they comensating you for all this hassle?
I would document everything and speak to your local MP and paper0 -
Compensation....not a snow flake in hells chance of that, this company is so tight it won't even pay for road closure signs to be put up the week before the road is going to be closed, so the only notice we get of a road being closed is when you try to use it and can't!
We are trying to arrange a meeting with our MP, the village has a website with a message forum and we are using it to make our "plan of attack" so to speak lol It's just that everything takes time and we just keep getting fobbed off :mad:0 -
looby
go direct to the HSE with regards to the holes in the footpath/road etc
your local HSE office can be found here:
http://www.hse.gov.uk/
email the HSE photos etc
ask the HSE why the builders are having to use your road and not the other site entrance you stated (there may be a valid reason why the builders have to use your road).....ask the HSE to ask the builders what it says in their Health & Safety Plan......ask to see the builders Health and Safety Plan - if possible....so you can view their own specific risk assessments of accesing their site through your road
the builders will have ten working days to respond to the HSE
looby...unfortuantly building anything creates a huge disruption for anyone living in the near vicinity......i think most of your points are unfortuantly just one of those things and you will have to just grit your teeth and bear it.....
however those holes in the footpath are appalling0 -
There is a simple solution to this problem IF (BIG IF) you and your fellow residents are 110% certain that the builder is in the wrong.
Take direct (legal & peaceful) action. Sounds like the builder only understands 1 thing - MONEY.
Arrange for some villagers to chain themsleves to machinery to disrupt work. It will cost the company money and force them to take action. Call the press and the Law to let them know in advance.
You (the villagers) will also be putting your money where your mouth is, if it is really that big a problem, then there'll be a good show of support for the "initiative", if there isn't, then perhaps it isn't such a big deal afterall?

Isn't that illegal though, the machinery is stored on the builders compound which is private property and the only way to get near it when it's not moving to chain yourself to it would be to break into the compound.adr0ck wrote:looby...unfortuantly building anything creates a huge disruption for anyone living in the near vicinity......i think most of your points are unfortuantly just one of those things and you will have to just grit your teeth and bear it.....

Thanks for the details of the HSE and what kind of things to put in an email to them. As for the disruption, I agree it is to be expected, and we did expect it, our main complaint is the TOTAL lack of regard and respect for property of the people already living here. There are so many small things that Haslam homes could do to dramatically improve and minimise problems but they just don't care. Simple things like keeping residence updated as to when roads are going to close and roughly for how long. Providing some kind of temporary street lighting when for the times they cut the existing lights off, they can manage to light up the compound like a Christmas tree so I can't see why they can't set something up for other areas. Making sure they clean up the roads after they drop building materials all over it and making sure they remove and dispose of the wrappings from building materials rather than letting them blow all over the streets. And making sure that when they do finally get round to filling holes in that they do it properly and don't leave a big dip in the path/road that is very easy to trip on. That kind of thing, it's not really a lot to ask is it.0 -
How about a demonstration outside their show home on a Saturday? Invite the local press along too.
You could get a local farmer to park some heavy machinery in the road and car park or block the area up with your cars and trailers of old building materials etc.Happy chappy0 -

LOL my thoughts exactly, we do want something to be done so we don't have to put up with all the problems but getting myself locked up isn't really what I or anyone else had in mind0 -
Not at all, it is a perfectly valid option.
The last time I looked, it wasn't illegal to demonstrate (unless it's about Blair). I didn't suggest that they vandalise anything or cause any damage. I even suggested they told the Law in advance. What's the worst that can happen - they'll be asked to move on. Haslam will get loads of bad publicity and may be forced to do something about the problem.
If they want something done they should be proactive. It's all well and good trying to get the HSE etc involved, but unless someone dies or gets seriously injured, they ain't gonna care.
The other alternative of course is pray that house prices crash before they finish the development and they have to sell at a loss and be forced into liquidation.... (joke - before anyone mentions the poor unemployed tradesmen)
