    Just need some advice.

I've got a weeks work training at the McDonalds Drivethru where I live. It's about 25 minutes walk away. After the trial ends I'll have the option whether to take the job or not; whether the job is for me or not. Great. No obligation to take the job.

But I'm worried about a number of issues.

I've been told that they bully, and I have been bullied before when I worked for them when I was 21 years old. I've been told that they are slave drivers, and I know that this is true from prior experience working in two different stores. I'm told that the job is monotonous and degrading. I know this as well, although this would be a somewhat subjective viewpoint.

    Do NOT feed the troll

Please read this other trolls threads on why he can't do this job or that.

Funny as hell...apparently denied a lunch break even though its only a 5hr shift and claims he can't do it because of blood sugar levels...

Claims he can't move shelves because he's too weak...

I never thought I'd meet a man that stands on the same morals grounds as I do. Thank you for showing me I'm not the only one in this world.

... We should talk sometime.

No doubt in the job center when you both go to sign on...

Why've you italicised "Drivethru"? You're already starting to make mental excuses as to why you don't want to do the job.

If they bully you, you can complain or leave. It's a risk in taking any job. It's just another excuse you're giving yourself.

Slave drivers make people work for no reward. They're paying you to work, so they're not slave drivers. Do you mean "they make you work hard"? You're making it seem like this is unreasonable - another excuse.

What's degrading about making burgers? Excuses.

I can't remember really having a great time working with them.

You were working with them. It wasn't a party. How much of a great time were you expecting? Don't expect work to be a laugh riot. Unreasonable expectations - or another excuse, in other words...

The woman at the job centre is being too rosey with me and she thinks that in a years time I will have climbed the ladder running my own store. I could only laugh at her comments,

Yeah, her comments were quite laughable...she'd obviously met you...your attitude is either better in real life, or she just wasn't listening. There's absolutely no reason why you couldn't work your way up - apart from the fact you'll stand there all day moaning about being a "robot wage slave" and backchatting any straight managers.

The only reason I would take this job is that it would be worthwhile taking it. After a calculation based on a 30hour per week on £6.04 per hour I will be £50 well off

I think I know the answer to this question, but you didn't think to check what the difference would be at 37 hours, did you? Or 40? Or 50? Shocking news - work more, earn more.

Added to this is the long hours standing up and pleasing everyone who comes through the door,
OMG, you have to be pleasant to other human beings! the humanity!

I'm praying that you're a troll and there's not really someone sat out there with this attitude, but just in case:

In your position I would ABSOLUTELY take the job. I'd bet on myself to make a success of it and I'd take on all the hours I could get my mitts on. If my hard work wasn't being recognised after 6 months or a year, I'd try applying for something else - and I'd move on.

I've always had a quality of life I've wanted to achieve. Holidays I've wanted to go on, cars I've wanted to drive, houses I've wanted to live in. I'm not there yet, but I'm on my way...and much further along than I would have been had I spent the last few years sitting on my !!!! and saying "I ain't no slave to the man".

No idea, but I doubt if he would have been given the work trial if anybody from Maccies in St. Helens had read this thread. He is quite easy to identify if the tale about a work trial is true - he lives in St. Helens and there are only two drive-thru Maccies. One is classed as being in St. Helens itself, the other is in Newton-le-Willows, which is a small town that now comes under St. Helens.

  • I would just take the job and try it out. I wouldn't believe the rumours about the employer until you see for yourself. Also as pointed out earlier JCP isn't as nice to people who don't take up work. it will also improve many of your skills or tick them over and improve them. In these current times not working isn't really an option with the cost of living. How do you think all other working people feel about job their job prospects? not including booming businesses etc.
The harder one works the luckier one gets!

I really wanted to rant at her because I don't get all that excited about big greedy corporations and their wage-slave underdogs.

Although the extra £50 would be nice I think getting that amount would be too high a price to pay for working at this corporation, which really doesn't fit-in with my value system.

    .

Big greedy corporations pay lots of lovely tax which helps you maintain your benefit choice lifestyle.

Quite honestly my value system does not allow for paying taxes to support people who use benefits as a lifestyle choice but sadly I do not have a choice in paying them. For some annoying reason the government just deducts from my wages and hands them out to people like you- as well as the people who really need them. Those I am happy to support. Lazy people I am not.
Get off your bum and go and get some pride.

...something like £110 to spend on food, electric, etc. At the moment I get £60 per week.

This pretty much did it for me, I'd be the best employee they'd ever had if it just about doubled my income.
