I went into the Birmingham Pavillions store today and bought the 'Fisher' top with the bird print. It is lovely and cost me £10 on top of the gift card. They also had it in black and emerald green so I think I'll get them too if I can get more cards. I got a large which is like a 14-16. I would have had a size bigger to give a bit more room but they don't do XL in that top and some other things too.

I'm amazed that people encountered such rude staff. The staff in this store were just so lovely! I had my four and a half month old daughter and niece with me (I looked like a young Mum of twins-hardly their usual clientelle) and when my niece started to cry, my Mum was told she was more than welcome to feed her sitting on the poufe in the shop. I was also told I could breastfeed my daughter if necessary but I didn't need to. This, to me, is always a sign of good service!

The staff weren't fussed in the slightest that we were only there to spend the gift card. In fact, they were saying it was really nice to have so many customers who wouldn't normally go in. They were also telling me that the sale stock was being taken away tomorrow so if I found anything I wanted I should buy it today/tomorrow seen as there would be no more bargains after then.

Thanks so much for this, went to the same store today with two cards. My 2 yr old daughter was with me and the staff were great with both of us. She played hide and seek with them and they helped me with my purchases etc :). They were great with the cards and actually kept appologising about having to put them through as seperated transactions. They cannot be used on sale items but i was very happy with my purchases. great service.

    Nab

    xx

I wear headphones too, I love to listen to music or the radio while shopping, and the SAs do usually leave me alone. It's nice to browse in peace but, when you are struggling with, say, bags and an umbrella, it's nice of them to put things that you want to try on aside for you, so that you can browse a little more. And I like it when they go and get you a different size when you're trying things on. That used to happen all the time - it's only in the last few years that changing room staff have started refusing to do so. One of my biggest bugbears!

p.s. if you are planning to buy the mag in two weeks, be aware that there may not be any copies left - I went to four shops before finding any the other day and it only came out on Wednesday!! Is this deal in the weekly email yet? Because, if it is, you can kiss goodbye to any chance of getting it. :( Martin, we do love you but you have an awful habit of giving away our best grabbits on the weekly email or (even worse) GMTV!!!! :rotfl:

Damn! I've £20 to last me the rest of the week (as in until the 13th) not even sure how I will afford to eat let alone a mag so fingers crossed there is at least one copy left somewhere...!

Can you get a friend/your mum to buy you one and tell them you'll sort them out on/after the 13th? Failing that, eBay has quite a few of these gift cards listed and they will definitely still be there by next week.

I used my first gift card today, the SA was quite helpful but clearly not at all impressed at Hobbs giving away FREE stuff (she used the word 'free' about 15 times, yes, I get it petal, it's free - well, £3.60!). She seemed ok about me going back with another card at some stage, might wait a couple of weeks though. She also said that there would be new ranges coming in before 2 May (worth remembering if nothing catches your eye right now).

The plain cotton spaghetti top that i got (in white) is very nice, but NOT worth £25!!!!!!!! Still, for £3.60 it's grand. :)

Staff in Liverpool Met Quarter really helpful if anyone is going in there.
  • I went to the Leeds Victoria Quarter store today. Staff very nice and helpful. I tried the top on in the changing room (Door wedged open by my pushchair as my 14 month year old son watched me!) and no problems using card. Bought the fisher top in navy/red so only cost £10 really pleased with it though had to get the large (normally a size 12 but they are quite fitted). Good luck to everyone else and don't be put off by any snobby assistants walk in there like Mary Portas! :j

Thanks for the tips everyone - I've bought the magazine today with the last bit of a WHSmith gift card - hoping to get myself a nice top with it.

spanner2, are the changing rooms small in your local Hobbs? In ours they're ENORMOUS!!!! I do like a nice big changing room. :D

I'm wearing my new top today. :) Felt a bit conspicuous carrying my Hobbs bag yesterday, as if *everyone* in town knew I'd got a freebie lol.

I felt like that yesterday too. As I walked past everyone I was looking at them thinking are you as MSE'r? Do you know I have a freebie in this bag?

    Thank you OP....
Went into Kingston today and bought a lovely grey jersey wrap top for £39 less £25.....

Am sorely tempted to buy another mag and get something else.....they had some lovely stuff in there.

And they weren't snooty at all !
