Ageing process is moving forward a step.
Can't read labels on jars now, other people could be telling the print says all sorts and I'd be none the wiser. Been putting it off but will finally have to do something about it now.
I'm not vain so that's not why I'm reluctant to accept my need for specs, I'm just aware it'll be the teeth and the hair next.
Something else I'm gonna have to pay for. Living doesn't come cheap does it?
How well did you adapt to being a spec wearer?

Pretty much kinda of grew up with it although didnt wear them much as a child and only really needed them as an adult. The more I worked with computers and of course the older I got it went from occasional use to all work day and now it seems all the time if I want to read anything. It was the needing to wear when going out that bothered me the most.
Today I am using contacts for the first time and so far so good!.
If you only need some reading specs then Im sure it wont cost much.:jMay 2013 new beginnings:j0 -
Admittedly it was a couple of years ago now but I kept my eyes open for a Free Eye Test offer, had it done, took the prescription away with me (which you are entitled to do), slept on it, had one set of their cheapest specs and then got two more pairs on a bogof special offer from Asda.
It makes life so much easier to have more than one pair - I keep one set on the go in the house and another set permanently in my handbag so that I never get 'caught short' as it were when someone says "did you read this item in the local rag .."?0 -
I didn't like the idea of wearing glasses full time... I need to wear them all the time but wore contacts for years... then one day I couldn't wear contacts any more and so bam! now I am a glasses wearer.
Have become much happier with it by getting some nice glasses - and more than one pair so I have a selection - got some from select specs online which were only £9.50 I think. My employer pays for my eye test as I work with computers all day.

It's not your eyes, your arms are not long enough.0

Needing to wear specs for reading is one thing: these can be bought cheaply almost everywhere once you've got prescription in your hands. Even my local pound shop sells them. The real trouble starts when you need a different prescription for near and far-off things. I now have to wear varifocals and am so vain that I don't often wear them when I'm out and about in the evenings. This sometimes means that I'm only able to recognise friends on the other side of the street from their clothing or gait. It'll be dentures and Tena Lady next......0

Joke first; I went to make an Opticians appt and was told they couldn't see me !!!!
I has trouble at school because I couldn't see the blackboard most of the time, was ignored and told I was making a fuss.
From aged 16 / 17 I've had to wear glasses for distance, which I just have to put up with.
They seem to pick up a lot of grime so have to be given a spring clean very regularly, sometimes disassembled.0 -
i bought some from poundland just for reading and close sewing work but i will also have to bite the bullet and get eyes checked soon:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

i used to have to have glasses when i was at middle school, but it was only for pc work.
i think tho at some point hubby and i will both have to accept we need them, everyone in both sides of our families have glasses, even my cousins 8 yr old dd has been wearing glasses since she started primary. it is gonna be inevtiable for us i think. but i didn't actually realise how little my mum couldn't see with out hers, it has just slowly crept up on her. but i think at 29 i don't have to worry just yet.0 -
I've just started wearing glasses for reading stuff, I can see a bus number from 500 yards away but can't read the paper unless I hold it at arms length! :rotfl:
I did get an eye test, just to make sure that my eyes were healthy, (well worth £12 of anyone's money) and the optician told me that I was slightly long-sighted, due to my age (!!!!) and said that I'd be fine with the cheap glasses from Boots, Superdrug, etc etc. I've got 3 pairs, all cost less than a fiver, and I keep them all over the house and in my handbag.
I have noticed though, that patients at work seem to think that I am far more qualified than I actually am when I'm wearing my specs. They obviously make me look very intelligent!

I wear contacts every day and can't stand the thought of wearing glasses full time.
I have noticed problems when reading etc so when I had my check the other month I got my prescription and just went to the chemists and bought a pair for £8.50 - can't see the point of paying out loads for something that I don't always wear.
Someone who works for me, got told the other day that she should get glasses for reading and computer work - so she has................she spent over £200 on a pair!!!! I almost fell off my chair when she told me
The thing is, they don't exactly suit her either but hey - if she has money to burn (not really) it's up to her!0
