my front room has a good view of the street and i can always see the postman walking down the road, he walked up to my door and put a card through the letterbox saying " sorry you were not in " i opened the door and he looked startled and i said im in can i have my parcel and he replied " i aint got it, its at the sorting office, you can ring up to rearrange delivery or collect it "
hang on, if you havent tried to deliver it how can i rearrange delivery ??
the sorting office said they didnt know why he did that and he has had a few complaints from his round0 -

Postmen are given one minute to deliver a parcel according to this article. I know for me it takes me at least one minute to get to the door, even if I hear the first ring. So I'm guessing their response is that they don't have time to deliver the parcel so they just stick the wait docket through the door...
But surely it takes them longer to write the docket than knock the door???

my postie always knocks on the door, and i do usually have time to get downstairs in the morning before he leaves his docket. we have had a few posties over the 6 years we've lived here, and they have always knocked on the door if they have a parcel to deliver.0

Perhaps you're going a bit deaf in your old age?
I started getting parcels delivered to work - except before Christmas one of my parcels was stolen from the security office in my building, and I'm having a hell of a job getting the company to accept liability...0 -
I remember your thread.
I taking you're having no luck?
BTW, great postie here, pops my parcels through my window! Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

As an ex-postie I always preferred to get an answer when I had to knock on the door due to the parcel not being able to fit through the letterbox or having instructions to 'hide' the parcel in the green bin or suchlike.
Scenario 1: No answer at door.....
I've carried the parcel around for part of my round and due to nobody answering the door I now have to fill in a 'While you were out' card, post that through the door and fill in a sticker for the undelivered parcel which I now have to carry until my next postal drop point.
Scenario 2: Answer at door.....
Customer takes aforementioned parcel (sometimes heavy) and I continue my round with a lighter load.
I had to physically carry all of my mail / parcels and I realise that postmen are increasingly being given trollies or other means to 'lighten the load' in the politically correct world as it is today but I would still be surprised if a postman deemed a householder not to be home within seconds, unless of course said postman had prior experience of the householder not being home and had already begun his paperwork trail before knocking on the door.
I'm not saying it's not happening, they didn't have the round that I did and mine meant that returning parcels to the sorting office resulted in me having to carry more weight for longer aswell as fill-in additional paperwork, an answer at the door was always preferable.0 -
I haven't had to bad an experience with my postman. Hes normally very good, only once or twice he hasn't rang the door bell.
I tend to have very bad experiences with couriers. Yesturday, Interlink tried to deliver boxes, they didn't even ring the door bell, just put the "sorry you were out, rearrange delivery" card through. I purchased paid for next day delivery, as without the boxes I can't post out any orders. So having to wait another 2 days for delivery has cost me money.
Citylink delivered me someones iPhone dock/charger, and delivered them a cookbook, The number and first few letters in the street address were the same. I took the iPhone dock to the person who should of recieved it, but they hadnt had the cookbook yet.
After some shouting at citylink they sorted it out, and the guy came back and tried to pretend he had a "different" parcel for me. I would of much rather he just said "Oh sorry" and went on his way than try to lie his way out of it. Afterwards when I thought about it, I could of brought quite a few cookbooks as the iPhone dock cost over £100.0 -
We have the same problem. Our posties hardly ever ring the bell. If parcels fit through the letter box, they will mostly put them through, even if they have to be signed for, if they're too big, they just put a note through that we have to collect it at the sorting office (a nice 10-15 minute drive away). They even pull it if we arrange for redelivery, just put a new note through without ringing the bell.
Same with recorded letters, it's a 50-50 toss, sometimes they ring the bell and we have to sign for them, other times they just go through the letter box without them ringing the bell.
We don't seem to have a fixed postman in our area, though we never see them, so could be mistaken ^^
On a note, our old neighbour was a retired postie and he used to be disgusted how mail gets handled these days, gives me so much trust in progress...0
