I don't know whether my postman knocks on the door as I'm not in during the day, but I do know that instead of leaving a card, he just puts the parcel outside my door. I live in a block of flats (there are nearly 70 in the building, and I'm on the ground floor, so easy access for anyone), and I worry that something will be taken. I sometimes get unexpected parcels from competition wins, so I wouldn't even necessarily know if something had gone! I used to live in the block of flats next door which doesn't even have an electronic entry system... literally anyone could have just walked in off the street after the postman (same one) left, and gathered up all the parcels left behind!
  • I opened my door once to my postman walking up my path. He sheepishly handed me the "while you were out note" and walked off. B*stard.

We've moved now and my new postman is lovely!

I keep finding that once the postman's been there's either a parcel left by the front door, or a note through saying that as I wasn't in the item has been left outside the door/taken to the sorting office etc.

But I'm in the house at the time, and the bell hasn't gone, nor has the postman knocked. One time I walked past the door as he was shoving the note through and I opened the door to him. He looked a bit taken aback and tried to claim that he'd rung the bell.

I think our postie has changed recently as we never used to have this problem. In fact the old one was quite patient and I had enough time once to haul myself out of bed (flu) and down the stairs.

It's a bit frustrating to have to go and collect items that could've been given straight to me on the doorstep as it either costs me money to get to the sorting office, or it's a fairly long walk.

so how long would that be?
    4 minutes,more?
say you wait 4 minutes for every packet before writing out the P739
so if you have 30 packets
    thats 120 minutes
so thats 2 hours for 30 packets
the new RM duty design software doesnt allow anywhere near that when it allocates time for delivering packets.
the days of posties having time to try neighbours, wait for ages are fast disappearing

Our previous postman was really impatient, would knock once and give me no time to get to the door, then put a card through the door. He's since been replaced with a younger more patient postie who gives me at least 30 seconds to get to the door. :D

The one in my last house did the same. Think he thought we were always out and didn't like wasting time waiting at the door then writing the card out. I'm sure he had the cards prewritten at the start of his round. Took me a while to twig, then one day I was expecting important parcel and waited in for it. I even carried the doorbell chime box round the house with me to be sure I heard it (tested it worked everywhere too) and then walked past door to see the card there. I complained to the sorting office and it didn't happen again.

There are some fab posties though. Our current one takes our elderly neighbours letters and posts them because she can't get out the house. Prob against the rules but a nice thing to do.
  • i guess im really fortunate, my uncle is my postie and depending on what im doing after school run im not always home by time he delivers between 9.30/10 am, if i have any parcels he'll leave them in outhouse at back for me rather than take them back to depot which would entail a half hour bus journey to collect them. have had some horrors tho, at my old house the postie got so he was later every day til most days it was near 2pm!!!

My normal postie is brilliant. He knocks and if no answer he tries the door , (we have known each other for past 20 years and have arranged this between ourselves) He knows I have mobility probs and cant get to the door very quickly, if i'm not at home the door will be locked. We now have a regular parcel driver now who does the same, I think this is however to see woofer.;) Ww did have a problem once where an old neighbour thought that we were having an affair and reported him to the manager at the sorting office.

Ours never knocks, and it can be very clear that we're home i.e. 2 or 3 cars in drive. He never makes an attempt to knock.

He leaves parcels outside in the rain, that includes signed for and special delivery parcels which need signatures!

This used to happen to me, I'm sure because we worked full time he didn't bother bringing them out, like some other posters have said I caught him after he'd left a slip and he tried to pretend someone else had left it! I'd been in all morning and it only appeared with the post! The time was correct also....Since I've been off on mat leave he's fine and always knocks now.
