Like with others - it depends on which postie is on the route! the short, rather overwieght one knocks and waits, the tall thin one, appears to be in training for a marathon as he jogs down the steps, shoves the 'you have a parcel waiting to be collected' slip through the letter box. and i have to be really fast to catch him as he is coming from next door! I have spotted the tall thin one filling in the slip as he is coming down the steps!

Since being on Maternity leave and actually at home to receive parcels, I've found that we have at least 3 different postmen/ladies. They've knocked on my door everytime and I've taken parcels for the neighbours too.

A friend of mine was at home once and happened to be walking past the front door when the postie put the "sorry you were out" note through the door. He opened the door and called after the postman and the postman didn't even have the parcel on him!!

It's a shame the service varies so much. At my last house we lived a couple of streets down from the inlaws and our postman there was so nice he'd leave our parcels at the inlaws if we weren't home - we never asked him too, he just knew my OH from when he lived at home, so knew it was his parents house. Top quality service.

the problem is you say top service
however its against the rules RM set down.
times are changing and folks need to accept change. leaving parcels outwith the specified delivery address/instructions can be a conduct code issue

I haven't had to buy stamps for a year now as I get a couple of books everytime I call to complain about this! I've been sat in the kitchen watching the postie slide the card in quietly; so the flap didn't clatter!!

I'm going to set up the free collection service soon, so I can go to the Sorting office and collect it all once a week

I opened my door once to my postman walking up my path. He sheepishly handed me the "while you were out note" and walked off. B*stard.

We've moved now and my new postman is lovely!

The same happened to me....he just leaves the parcels at the depot and just puts a while you were out slip though. I think it's disgraceful as I pay for delivery to my house not the depot two miles away

We're mostly out during the day, and he will leave any parcels in the porch.

I'm happy enough with this, as at least I don't have to collect them. However it is slightly annoying as when we moved in I especially bought a parcel safe box - as we do order an awful lot online so get lots of parcels. It's fixed to the side of the house, they are supposed to put the parcel in and turn the knob to lock it.

But only about 5% of the time do they bother to use it, which is just plain annoying! (we do have sitckers in the porch window to say it is there, and we have told them but they still ignore it mostly).

The odd time I do work from home, I've found that there is no knock at the door or doorbell, yet I'll check the porch and find parcels have magically appeard, even though my car is there on the drive.

Overall, I guess I am just glad that they do leave the parcels, just annoyed at how they go about it!
