Batter down your mobile contract cost

Hi all
With reference to your money saving mobile phone package, I too am with Orange on there talk 400 costing £50 00 per month unfortunately (because I damaged my phone) I have recently renewed my contract, nevertheless this morning I asked for a better deal (having been with them for 6 years I thought I would be a valued customer), they told they are not prepared to negotiate on my package in any way, so I reduced my package down to there lowest monthly rate in order to pay off my contract and go to another net work, they were happy to do this for me.
Now there’s customer relations for you!!!
P.S Anyone know the best mobile phone deal it looks like I will be needing one in a months time??0 -
I thought i'd give this a go as I am due a new phone today anyway.
When I first called and asked about a new Nokia 7610, the cheapest I could get it for was £99.99. I said this was too much and was advised that if I saw it cheaper elsewhere, there might be something they could do.
So I found it free with Vodaphone, and called again and was put through to the disconnection line. I told the chap I wasn't happy paying any money for the phone when I'd seen it elsewhere. Not only did he then offer it for free, but he also threw in 120 free texts a month for 18 months! V impressed. It's about time Orange did something for me, I've been with them for ages. I would definately recommend at least trying this. What do you have to lose?0 -
I actually cannot believe this. I tried this today.
Having dialled 150 from my mobile today, I pressed option 4, and then option 4 again. Spoke straight to the disconnections team.
Went through Martin's script! The friendly operator told me that my contract expired on January 7 2004.
I told him if he could match the terms for my mine, and my partners phones, we would consider staying. I also stated that I wanted a new phone for each of us..
The agent offered to better 3's deal, and for £29 a month each, we would get 500 minutes, and 100 free texts!
We are currently paying £36 each for 120 minutes, and 50 texts a month so extremely happy there.
He said as we were not quite up to the contract expiry, and should pay a £50 upgrade fee for new phone. THIS WAS WAIVED.
We both have brand new camera phones worth £180 each free of charge!
I AM WELL CHUFFED!!! SPOT ON!0 -
I have been with Orange from day one.
I have two phones on Orange contract,
1. 200 x network + 100 text messages
2. 750 off peak + text messages, costing altogether £40 per month.
My monthly bill is between £80 - £100 per month.
Tried Martins tip, as my 750 off peak phone was out of contract, all they offered me was an extra 120 texts per month.
Disgusted, cancelled contract straight away and reduced other phone to minimum contract.0 -
I'm a happy bunny! Iwas on Orange Talk 200 and tried Martins dialogue. I got the extra 300 minutes per month (although they don't carry forward) plus 20 texts for £25 per month and phone upgrade.
Assertiveness is needed when calling them but they were very pleasant and polite.0 -
Didnt work for me at all - I tried 3 different times - in fact The operator was fairly rude to me on one of the calls
I quote "you dont spend enough money each month to warrant any offers or upgrades"
Orange can basically shove it
I was paying £28.99 a month and been with them 14months

Interesting article Martin. I want to try this challenge, unfortunately I am on o2 online busiiness tarrif. Which if you want to upgrade (which I do once my phone will work). The challeng is not the negotiation with O2 online but to get the right number to call. I tried 12 numbers in all and got nowhere. Even their premium rate numbers (which are staffed by the rudest and most unhelpful people in existence). It turns out that if I want an upgrade I ring a certain number which in turns directs me to the premium rate number when I put my number in. The premium rate operators dont believe me when I tell them this and give me the number again.
and all this to just get my phone to work again.
To upgrade I also have to ring the premium rate number.....so to give them extra / my business I have to spend my money!!!
Can anybody help me? I normally cope with management and stress quite well but I can honestly say I have never ever felt so wound up by such bad customer service.
EricTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
Ericthered - I would put the contents of your message into a letter and send it to the managing director of O2.
Be prepared for the fact that he/she might be just as ignorant as the rest of them, but then again it might have an impact. Worth a try.0 -
My wifes contract with Orange was due up on the 26th November so I called Orange and asked them how long I had to give for a notice period to cancel it. The agent asked me why I wanted to leave and I began 'The story'
I explained that my wife was a serial texter and that the average bill weighed in at around £90-100 per month. She also continually went over her 200 voice minutes. The agent looked at the bill and confirmed she was using 200 text a month and about 400 minutes talktime.
I told her I had seen 3 phones for £30 a month and that I would get 500 minutes and 100 texts
She imediately offered me 500 minutes voice for £25 and said that I could get 240 text for £16.
'That's more like it' I thought.
She then went straight onto the phone upgrade without me even asking. She asked which one i would like. I said what have you got and she offered me the Nokia 6230. Great phone for my wife as it has MP3 player, radio, video capabilities. and all that for Just £4.99. (i was going to ask for it for nothing but the girl had been so good that I didn't bother)
So in reality I should not have to pay anymore than £40 a month from now on saving £60 - £70 a month.
Just another little tip. I have had a freephone 0800 number on my home phone for about 4 years. it costs just £2 a month from Telecomplus and that cuts down on the calls from mobile to home. instead of paying 25p a min on orange it costs about 2p a min by dialling the 0800 number. It;s also great for my daughter when she needs a taxi at 2am in the morning (i think it's called DADS TAXIS). We do not have to worry that she will not have any credit on her phone or change for a payphone.
Going back to Orange I also asked about my phone which is due at the same time as my wifes, I do not go over my voice or text minutes and so the upgrade value was £150, The agent advised me to ring back nearer the 26th november and it may have come down a little.
So it really does depend on what you are spending. so not for everyone.
The good thing is I have a great Christmas Present for my wife (£4.99) that will actually save me money. That has to be a first.
Thanks

Oops, I posted this earlier in the wrong thread..sorry :-[
Well waddayaknow! After seeing Martin's upgrade and tariff change deal, I thought I should do the same...seeing as I have been an orange customer for 7 years and always change my contract (and no) to upgrade. (I am currently on 300 orange to orange/Landlines and 250Txts = £25 per month)
Now as luck would have it, I am 13 months in to my contract..and wanted to upgrade my phone (though I do like the number.. easy to remember!), so after checking the orange website to see how much it would cost me to upgrade (Samsung E800 = £74.99) I called orange, the operative was good with all the free phones I could have, then when I asked about the model I had my eye on he quoted me £74.99..I then asked if it was possible to give verbal notice of termination of my contract as I had seen a deal with 02. I was put through to disconnections...(at this point I WAS ready to disconnect!) However this operative asked why I was wanting to terminate and I said about wanting the Samsung E800 (I did not mention anything else)...So I ended up getting the phone free, plus 60 mins cross network calls, another 250 texts a month and free wap access for the next year on to my current talk plan...as of tomorrow!
Another fine day!
Thanks
Martin! ;D0
