Every parent/guardian with a child taking the tests this year received the information in their results letter. Strange isn't it that NOT ONE HELPFUL contributor would have thought to post the info. As for someone wanting to compare quintiles with last years range - pocket protector, anorak-wearning saddo (or maign educationalist) springs to mind.
Thank goodness for the Paceni contribution- at least they seem to care.0 -

He's a bit of a bore that Martin fella....:rotfl:0 -
Well....
Just in case anyone has misplaced the information, or is interested but doesn't have it from source;
The quintiles as notified by AQE this year were:
1. 113 and above
2. 106 to 112
3. 99 to 105
4. 88 to 98
5. 87 and below
I should probably say that these do not look correct to me, given what AQE have said about the standardisation of the scores. If they are fitting to a normal distribution, it should be symetrical around the average (declared as 100 by AQE). So heaven only knows what they actually did.
If they are standardizing consistently from year to year, the quintiles should be about the same each year. Consistent does not necessarily mean correct, however.0 -
Thanks Rik. Just found my copy of the quintile ranges. So were the quintiles much different last year?
Thanks0 -
I don't have the figures from last year. A quick look at last year's thread suggests that the top and bottom quintile ranges were the same. Some digging there may turn up the rest, but I'm not sure it's worth it. If they've mangled the data to fit a set of pre-determined score ranges (which is what it tends to look like), there's not a great deal of use in comparisons.
We would need the raw scores for that to work and/or some clarity on how they actually hack them around to arrive at the scores/quintiles they give as "results".0 -
Thanks Rik. I often wonder what our childrens actual scores are from the tests before everything is rejigged for age and to get the correct % for each quintile. No point in speculating as we'll never know the answer!
Roll on end of May is all I can say!0 -
I dumped this stuff weeks ago thinking if I did I would just have to let it go and not think about it. Needless to say it didn't work.0

Well, I have to say that I think it would be better to have the raw marks, as well as the "scores". I had to explain to my son why his score was so far off his expectation. I don't think it's good to give this figure to kids without explaining how it departs from reality - it sets up a disconnect between their own assessment of how well they did on the test and the "results".0 -
:DYes Rik, I agree. I think its the not knowing, how they work the scores out. I.e. how do they score it out of 145? How many marks are given for age etc. Maybe if they let us know, we wouldn't be on here trying to guess everything. I've been through last years thread, and I'm really non the wiser.0

Doggies,
I think the ranges were almost the same last year except the boundary between Quintile 3 and 4 was one mark lower.
ie Q3 98-105
Q4 88-97
The rest were the same as this year.
An awful lot of kids must have scored 99 or 100 this year.0
