Hi Facingthefuture, yes my daughter is the same. She hasn't really mentioned it much. On the Monday after the results, they sussed out a few scores in the class and it all seems to be forgotten about now. She is the same in that there will be people from her class going to all the schools she has listed. Though she is good at making new friends, so not too concerned there. To be honest I'll be happy with either of her first 3 choices, but its just the not knowing. We waited so long for the result and for us anyway it hasn't really confirmed anything!

Anyway, It was Euro Disney we went to in Paris. Was fantastic and would recommend it. An ideal age for madam to go, as she wasn't passed the stage of going on the younger family rides, but was still tall enough to go on the bigger rides. I think the tallest height restriction was 1m 40 and she went on it. It was Space Mountain and was pretty scary, some of the less scary ones she wouldn't go on. We got a great deal through collecting tokens from the Sun newspaper. We went from Wed till Sat. On Sat it was really chocker block with people. Lot of French people go at the weekend. Would def recommend going early in the week. Our longest queueing time was about 20mins. I wouldn't like to be there in peak season. I'm wide awake as we slept till 12 today, in bed at 4am this morning. Back to work and school tomorrow, so I suppose I should try and get a little doze.

    Night Night :)
  • Northern Ireland Student Achievement: Results in reading, mathematical and scientific literacy among 15-year-olds from OECD PISA 2000 study
Although countries have been ordered according to their mean score in most
of the tables and figures, the ranking of a country is not meaningful in itself.
Some of the differences between countries may be small or not statistically
significant. This will depend upon the size of the difference and the sample
size and sample design in each country. Figure 4.1 shows how the mean score
in mathematics in any given country compared with other countries. By
selecting a pair of countries for comparison, the figure indicates whether the mean score of the country of interest was significantly lower or higher than that of the comparison country, or if there was no significant difference between the two. Results are presented for the UK to allow comparisons with
international publications. As Northern Ireland students make up 4% of the UK total, and English students make up 87% of it, comparisons are made between Northern Ireland and England, rather than with the UK as a whole.

PISA is part of the OECD programme based upon a Marxist ideology of equality of outcome. I would suggest that most of those posting on this thread are linked to the education establishment or the teaching profession. The last thing on their minds is the sharing of practical or useful information but rather a cynical attempt to confuse and obsfucate and perpetuate increased anxiety among parents unable to obtain information from PPTC, AQE or schools directly. One clue is that when verifiable information is offered it is rejected as otherwise. Doggies and facingthe future should communicate by PM rather than regale us with their EuroDisney stories. Let's see if they can take advice.

Aww thanks Slipped_Disk. We had a wonderful time and would definitely return. Back to porridge today though, stressful day in work. But a nice walk earlier cleared the old cobwebs away! So much so, that I'm away out with the Doggies again :j

Sorry I know the above is not relevant to transfer tests, but hey we are all human and I do like chit chat.

Something that is relevent, if anyone is reading this thread who had a child or knew of someone that went through tests last year and had special circumstances, can it make a difference? Or is it just a paperwork exercise in the interests of appearing fair? Any input much appreciated. Thank you all.

    Doggies,

I can not speak from personal experience or with any authority but it does look from the information published that children do indeed have their results "upgraded" because of Special Circumstances. They all seem to quote the lowest score they accepted and that there were Special Circumstances.

If you can show that your child usually performed signifiacntly better than their result indicates and that there were circumstances that can be verified that caused them to under perform, then the school would/should give this due regard.

As far as I know they would compare how you child had been performing in practice papers compared to others in their class/school and then look at the results obtained in the tests by children who were comparable to your child in the practice papers.

So, for example, if there were other kids in the class who were scoring around the same as yours in the practice papers and then got 10 marks more than yours in the real thing, and you have documentation to confirm your child was ill during the time of the actual exams, I suspect the schools would accept that your child should be judged to have been expected to score more highly. I think they even go so far as to "award" the child a new score in keeping with their demonstrated ability and then use that to judge whether or not they are accepted.

As I say, I can not speak with any authority, but that is my understanding or the process.

I hope I have explained it properly.

Is that a promise? Sorry chum. I thought for a minute that post came from Martin Lewis himself or at least someone of influence. Have you anything to contribute on the comparison between PPTC GLA tests and the AQE CEA? If not perhaps you could regale parents with a comparative analysis of Disneyland / California Adventure, DisneyWorld and Epcot and EuroDisney, Paris. I am not mean, just not one to be bullied and I troll for noone. Get over yourself.

So is every applicant for special circumstances a special case? I do wish you had cited the source of your authority- A school name perhaps or the name of one of your friends providing you with this info ?

Special circumstances claims fly in the face of evidence that for the AQE CEA virtually all candidates took all three tests. Smells of middle class manipulation by those in the know - something that was difficult to pull off when CCEA did the testing.

Save your psycho babble Doggies If you cannot handle information I suggest that it may behove you to take a break from this "communal effort" to intimidate other parents and wait until May for the admissions decisions.

I refer you back to the rules of the forum. Suck it up and play on.
