Anyone know the typical GL scores in NW in derry area. My nephew got 245 and trying to find out that is sufficient to get in. Last year 281 was the top score for school and anyone heard of such scores this year. Thanks in advance.

No-one knows yet, not even the school! The thing is children from Strabane to Limavady also want to go there so it isn't just the city scores that are relevant. Last year the cut off was 240. Great mark.

Hi! 245 should get him into Lumen, if that's where's he's thinking, and no prob. into anywhere else. Lumen took 240 last year. There will be some very high scores, but there are 120 places, and I would be surprised if he didn't get in with 245. Well done to him!
  • So we have to wait till the last Saturday in May....excruciating or what? Whatever happens it will be still sad to see them leave primary school....we must enjoy every minute we can of their childhoods (dad tells me not to wish my life away). My DS wants to dress up as a pirate for book fair tomorrow, he may well be too cool to do so in a few years.

I would suggest that you re-read the forum rules as newbies. It is nice to have you here professing to be part of the caring community but evidence tops anecdote any day. So for the benefit of all parents, myself included, please identify the difference between a good and bad school with the measurement criteria clearly outlined. Please name a secondary school that is better than a grammar school for academic attainment and also provide your evidence of any link between Martin Chambers and Paceni.
Sorry to be doling out homework for the first year joiners but there are some serious issues to be addressed on this forum.

Newbies ......... Really.......... Pot, kettle, black mean anything to you Martin.

You have been told before that you have nothing to add to this thread yet you consistantly post your trolling rubbish, perhaps your superiority complex is just too big ? Everyone just ignores your posting now anyway:o

I shouldn't feed the troll but....

On the issue of superior secondary schools it is worth noting that Oakgrove College (a non grammar school) in Londonderry have had 5 pupils offered places in Oxbridge this year. As opposed to Thornhill College with 1 and even Lumen, considered the best school in Northern Ireland with only 3 :o go figure ...............
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

Wow, I didn't know about that with Oakgrove...well done to the staff and pupils - respect!!!!

Really I suppose you are referring to the wonderful numeracy and literacy standards produced by primary schools. There are still some 20% of children leaving primary education failing to meet basic standards of numeracy and literacy. I do so enjoy the contributions of those so clearly ignorant of the problems or their solutions. Who exactly does benefit- the teachers and other feeders at the public trough or the pupils. If you are not taught to read your future is bleak since you cannot be taught or learn about other subjects .

That might be due partly to pupils (and their parents) at Oakgrove being more amenable to the idea of Oxbridge than those at Lumen Christi. And maybe going to a non-selective school carries more weight for Oxbridge admissions these days. It's still very impressive though.

All very true indeed, I just thought the statistic was impressive :)

I tried to talk my DS around to having Oakgrove as 1st preference as I was very impressed with the school and their ethos in general, but he had his heart and mind set on another school:o The things we do to keep the peace eh...:rotfl:
