I think my family are sick of my photo taking to be honest... and I have an aunt who's always pointing a camera at everyone too! :rotfl: What I mean is, I don't know that they would appreciate pictures of themselves too much, but pics of something else would be good.

We went on holiday to france in the summer and I took loads of nice photos, so did my dad but he shoots digital and so they just sit on his computer... never being printed or looked at really. I was thinking I could choose a few (probably mine as they're on film ;)) and have them printed a reasonable size, frames from IKEA or similar would do! Or I could put together an album  I don't have access to a darkroom at the moment which makes me miserable so I'll have to investigate the cost of local labs around here... annoying when I'd love to do it myself grrrr!

Thanks for getting me thinking guys!! :)

Thank you! That last one looks good, not sure if I could compete really but its worth a try I guess. I'd have to take photos to build up a reasonable stock but that could be fun ;) The work I do generally wouldn't be the right kind of thing but this could be another money-making scheme. Easier if I had a digital camera though... so I'd better get saving for one!! ;) :rotfl:

That is not the attitude. Of course you can compete.

Some of those stock photo places have shots of hot air balloons, hedges, rocks etc.

The one that gives out assignments, have a good look first. But don't sell yourself too cheap.

Will not could. You need to find your passion for your art again. Even if this comes to nothing, that is something worth doing.

You never know. If you like what you do - someone else will as well.

Not only save - but investigate which one. They're not all the same.

  • I've only just seen this thread (I'm lax these days aren't I? Oh the shame...) and I just wanted to say good luck in Sunderland and also well done on the Christmas job. That could turn into something more and if not well it looks good on you for doing something.

Keep re-reading all your good points Kath and you know what? I bet you can add loads more....

    Big hug. :grouphug:

  • i read somwhere that only a very small percentage of graduates (about20%) I think, get work in their chosen field within a year of leaving university. At least your temp job will get you into the swing of working, and maybe they will keep you on part time after christmas whilst you pursue your photography. Good luck next weekend.

Oh yeah, there's no shortage of subject matter. And I'd love to just go out and photograph pretty pictures of random things and put them on there... but digital camera required really otherwise it would cost a fortune. More of which in a moment....

Photographing random stuff will be fun, I know! And yes, I need to find my passion for my art again preferably by saturday when I meet the editor bloke... best get looking ;). But the two are totally different things. That's good cos it means I wouldn't mind selling any of the 'pretty picture' type stuff through a stock library whereas my art is another matter...

Well, yes. But they're not exactly commercial images. And I'm protective of them.

Oh, have done this over and over in fantasy land!! I know which one I would get because it would accept the vast stock of lenses I already have (for my film cameras) and thereby saving about £400 each for the fancy lenses that people seem to think are essential. I'd only need to buy the body and would be getting double use out of my existing lenses... that's moneysaving!

Of course there's also the fantasy land option... but not on my current salary!! :rotfl:

I could borrow my dad's compact digital (which is quite good as they go) in the meantime though.

I do hope so... some of the junior staff were saying the other day 'oh, everyone gets asked to stay on' and the like... which is encouraging! Of course I'd like to have a CSV placement organised by then, if they ever get back to me

The stats are worse for photography I'm afraid... only 2% of photography graduates end up ever making their living from (art) photography.

But I don't really want to do that as such... a combination of bits and pieces is good for me!

    Aww, thank you :)

The matched betting takes a few read throughs before it sinks in but, once it does, its really quite simple and you wonder what was confusing you!! :D
