I am shocked at the price of halls (self catering), you could rent a detached house round here for what they charge!0 -
daylight robbery!!!!!! lol
The only good thing is that he wont have daily transport to pay to lectures as the accom is onsite - unless he chooses to go somewhere! He now understands why I told him months ago he wouldn't be taking his car to uni with him! he wont be able to afford the 20p to put air in his tyres never mind petrol in the tank!!!0 -

A partime job should be easier to get in London

As well as a part-time job, books can be borrowed from the library* and course costs are usually negligible; some notebooks and pens won't cost much.
*Never, ever buy books before the course starts. Wait until you see how much you need to use particular books and then look into buying them if you want, after a few weeks.0 -

millions of years ago when i went to uni I made that mistake and my parents bought me every book on the list! used only a few of them but also found old students selling theirs off dirt cheap. The library is the best bet as they usually have multiple copies and you can reserve them too.0 -
