  • I didn't realise people were booking and paying for accommodation already! Didn't even think you could?!

As for London, yeh my daughter has been there twice and loved it, liked going on the underground etc, it just looked like City University was more geared for mature learners? Just the impression the prospectus gives, plus their bursary is rubbish at just £350.

Anyone have any experience of City?

London x10 better than Scotland (no idea about the unis, just the place). But I'm a born southerner so I would say that :D

London weighting would add more to student loans and grants. But also more tuition fee debt.

oh yes, accomodation booking opened yesterday as I said at Leeds MEt. Took me an hour to register as it was so busy!!!
  • crikey, I hope the other 3 uni's hurry up and say yay or nay then, so I can get on and sort accommodation for her, sorry... so SHE can sort the accommodation and I can be there to supervise and help if required.

The cheapest accommodation at city is £30 a week dearer than the cheapest in others I've looked at :( Can anyone tell me how much the London weighting allowance is?

If you do the calculator in one of my first posts and choose a London University it'll tell you :)

    Due to complete boredom:

    Maintenance Loan - £5,475
    Maintenance Grant - £2,906

    Based on £8k income.
  • Thanks, I read somewhere that they take the maintenance grant off the maintenance loan, so the total you can get will still be £5475 (not plus £2906), is that right?

The calculator accounts for this, so she'll get both. (so ~£7k)
  • £8381? crikey, that seems a lot.... just going to take off accommodation costs and see what's left!
  • that leaves approximately £83 per week for books, course costs, food, washing, travel, basically all living costs (in London).... hmmm it doesn't go as far as I thought!
