  • Just collected my daughters this afternoon and haven't turned it on yet, (shes at school, I would be murdered). Am a being silly in thinking it is basically a smaller version of a laptop? Loads of people have told me it doesn't have this or that etc. All we would want it for is daughters school work, and internet access, is it going to be capable of this with out me buying extras? Thanks in advance.

Yes it will be perfect for her , the only thing it will not have is a DVD/CD drive ,, you can buy external USB ones for £30 but i doubt you will need one ,

Haven't looked at much else on mine yet, just been on the internet.

If you set it up to start up in Android instead of Windows 7 it only takes about 15 seconds to load up the internet connection icon then about 5 seconds to get online, closing down and switching off takes about 2 seconds in Android!
  • Flip, shouldv'e got myself one never mind ingrat children, it takes me about 20 minutes to boot up on this clapped out thing. I have to admit, I have no idea what I'll be doing, how do you get it to connect to the internet with out a disc etc. For example on this computer, I click on the sky broadband icon to connect, but hers won't obviously have that, iykwim?

  • Don't know if anyone has mentioned this on this thread yet, but apparently, on the description for the red netbook, the processor was incorrectly listed at N450 instead of N270. Some people have phoned Tesco customer services to complain and have been offered refunds of up to £30 as a goodwill gesture. Might be worth a go. I bought the blue one though, so was correctly listed for mine. Still very happy with it though.

The description for the blue one also says N450:
    http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.207-5482.aspx

"Features include an Intel® Atom™ N450 processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive and integrated sound card.
    "
"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."

  • So it does! I seem to recall though that the red one had a particularly incorrect description. For the blue one it says N270 on both the title and the features page. I did some research prior to buying so was aware it was an N270, and I'd feel a bit cheeky trying to get a discount myself, but for others who may not have noticed the discrepancy, I think they would have a legitimate complaint.

I was asked how do you set up Android to start up the Acer as it only takes seconds to start up from Android.

On the Windows desktop there is an icon showing the little Android (says Acer Configuration Manager for Android TM).

Click on that and it will bring up a box saying ' Do you want to allow the following programme from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer? ), click Yes.

Brings up a box for Boot Options (top left tab).

It shows an icon for Windows and one for Android, click on the Android then press OK.

If you boot up in Android and don't do anything for a given time ie 10 seconds then the system will change over to Windows.

You can go from Android to Windows by clicking the little arrow in the top left of the Android desktop.

You can't go from Windows to Android though, you have to close down and restart the netbook.

    ;)
  • This is awesome information about Android setup? I do not suppose that you can actually go to Android market and download applications for Android phones and tablets?!
