I've never put my bread to heat to prove, just left it in the kitchen, when I had a very draughty old kitchen I used the shower cap on the bowl but apart from that I've never had a problem; dough will actually rise in the fridge, albeit very slowly, and the artisan bread recipe instruction is (I think) to prove the dough slowly over a period of 12 hours or more ;)

Aaah! I didn't know it would rise without heat lol, I can remember my gran making it , but her kitchen was warm. I made it years ago, and stopped.
I like the sound of the artisan bread recipe, it would be a lot easier to make the dough, prove it overnight and bake it in the morning.
Just had a look at the loaf I made last night, OH has been feasting on it. Need to make another one.
Thank you for the 'TIPS' they are greatly appreciated.

  • Morning all, nipped to Asd@ before swimming...hasn't minced beef shot up in price! It's a long time since i bought it, with having DS at home thought I'd get some for a cottage pie. Anyway saw some Whoopsied quality burgers so bought those instead for £1.12 for twice the weight. Will fry and break up just like mince, add some lentils to eek it out a bit more. also got a large chicken pie for £1 which will go in the freezer. Tonight making a large mushroom volauvent. Brown and shitake mushrooms, white wine and double cream:eek: yum. Was going to make my own puff pastry but it seems such a faff, cost £1.66 for 2 slabs, so might give it a go in the future

Cauliflower cheese to tea tonight, I seem to have enough cauliflower to last a lifetime :D have got some bacon out of the freezer to add to it, to make it a bit more interesting :)

Hi all :) Don't know if it has been mentioned before, but Asda are now doing 8 hour delivery slots for £2.50 so if you plan on being in all day anyway, you can choose to choose an eight hour slot. :)

Well, I've gone past my target and that's before my t*sco shop arrive tomorrow. I now realise how I had got back into bad habits. This month has taight me a lot. I have decided to join a fruit box scheme and still get my veg locally. I have a fussy lot in regards to vegetables so a box wouldn't work. I am already planning ahead for next month and we are away one weekend and dh is away another weekend so my food bill will definitely be lower. I have to pick up milk on the way home from work and will bake some chocolate chip cookies when I get in for after dinner. My freezer will be full after tomorrow's shop so only fruit and veg need for the next 2 weeks.
