February 2011 Grocery Challenge

NSD today - was thinking I'd have to get some milk, but then I remembered the 2 litre packs of uht milk I'd bought at the beginning of the month for just such an eventuality! I don't so much mind having to lose a NSD for needing milk, it's the other £20 odd I'd spend too! This seems the best way to tackle that.
Also have cleared some space in my freezer, which means that I can fit my bread in again now, so no waste there. I tend to get through a shop-bought loaf every 2-3 weeks, so the only option is to use the freezer or feed the birds! Feeling much more MS today than I have for a while.
I started on sl!mfast today - I bought 2 tubs of it when they were half price in bo*ts last month, and decided last night that I need a bit of a kick start on the whole weight loss front. This does mean though, that less food will be used up, which is what I'm currently working on!
The children had LO mac cheese today with some tinned sausages for a change, and I had LO HM pizza, so a very cheap day today! Will not be feeding the children dinner tom or Weds, so I'll have some stuff to use it up, not sure what yet. I tend not to meal plan the days I'm by myself, and I just go through the cupboards or the freezer and work out what needs using up. Sometimes I have rather strange and random things!
I'm off to research cheap washing machines, as mine has just given up the ghost. May also look at launderettes, and see if I can wait until the warmer weather to get a machine. Don't know yet. (Washing machine lives in outhouse, freezes up when weather is really bad...)
PG xGrocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100
Frugal 2018 needed! Saving and NOT spending0 -
I'm not doing quite as well this month. My DS1 has come down with chicken pox, so i ended up going to costco alone, without DH to warn me not to buy as much and without the kids messing around to speed me up.
Altogether i have spent £163.55 of £200.
Saying that, we have a lot of fruit, bread and milk in, and who knows when i will actually get out of the house again. No doubt DS2 will come out in the spots too any day now.
I have also got enough nappies for the month, and cat food for the month, so maybe it can be reigned back in.
I have actually sat and meal planned for the 1st time in a long time for the whole week, so i am hoping it will be alright.0 -

REDKIDS1972 - I don't think I speak for just myself that I often pop to the shops for milk and come away £30 lighter - it is so easy to do and so easy to view things that a bargains that we don'e actually need.
That is why I now have a milkman. The milk may be slightly more expensive, but it's saving me a fortune in things not bought in A$da.
Oh, and I haven't read the thread yet, but petfood is on 3 for 2 in Tesco if it hasn't been mentioned so far.0 -

Spent £47.95 on online shop at Mr T's which came on Fri. Just made a lamb, potato & spinach curry with the leftover lamb from yesterday. Normally I would have given that leftover meat to the dog (about a large handfull), but instead it has made another meal for 4. Also made a bacon, cheese & leek quiche yesterday, we had it for tea tonight, and I have enough to take to work for the next 2 days, saving me even more money :j Shouldn't need to go shopping again til Friday, but we'll seeLBM Dec 10. Total unsecured debt £41176  Nov 12 Debt Free Thanks Mum x RIP x
2013 Savings £250
2013 OP £35000 -
I am quite proud of myself as I had a modest shop yesterday, £21.29 in Mr T's. Quite an achievement considering that for the past month I've spent £50+ each sunday! I always need a couple of bits in the week so I'm going to try and nip in when I haven't got much time - so can't browse round every aisle as I usually do! Hopefully I can stick to this and will come in below target this month.0

Evening everyone. I haven't spent any money since last Wednesday :j.
We finally did an inventory of the freezers, only 1 thing we couldn't identify so we defrosted it and it turns out to be cauliflower & cashews, so I'm having that for dinner tomorrow. Since December we have been very good about labelling everything we put in the freezer which will help greatly in the future. As a result of doing the inventory we discovered half a HM cheesecake that I'd forgotten about, which we have now eaten
Hoping to delay grocery shopping until Friday if at all possible, when I want to get dates for the No cook apple chutney, really looking forward to eating that and eggs for lemon curd as well as some other bits.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
