Amazon Kindle free upgrade to Lighted cover from non-lighted

Yep - I sent an email and got a positive response.
They have refunded me about 28 (incl postage) and given me a gift cert for 21 - I have also ordered a new one - the bonus for me, is that because we don't pay vat, the price of the cover is lower so, with the refund and the gift cert, I am in pocket by about £3! lol
Tbh I think that it's really good that they are offering a no quibble refund/gift cert and not asking for the original cover back.0 -

You will need a cover for it, there are covers that amazon sell for it or there are covers made by others that may fit it.
The covers from Amazon did come in with or without a light, but it seems that people had problems with the one without the light and are being offered a free case with a light.0 -
I'm a bit worried now, I have a non-lit cover but had no problems with my Kindle, but I'm concerned it might cause problems in the future.0

Just to say that you don't *need* a cover for it! It's like having a mobile phone - some people keep it in a leather cover or a silicon skin to protect it; others don't.
I don't have a cover for mine, and it's fine. Obviously protecting it is a good idea, but I didn't want the poster to feel that she had to purchase something that isn't a necessity!
Thanks, BTW, OP - my dad now has a credit for a new Kindle lighted cover.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
Thanks for this. Just rang up and got it sorted. Qas given £50.99 store credit as my kindle and cover was a gift.0

Imo although it isn't compulsory, lol, you do need a cover, it has a quite soft screen not like a mobiles screen at all.0 -
#15 BettiePage, I'm with you on this. I've also emailed Amazon and will let you know how I get on.0

I thought it was only the 'old' non-lighted cases that was causing problems and not the new ones? When I was researching purchasing a Kindle I found this out to be a problem, however after reading more and more it appeared to me that the non-lighted case's with metal clips were causing the drop in battery/crashing etc. The case was using the kindle to power a light thats wasn't there iyswim. I purchased my Kindle (and non-lightyed case)at the end of December and it has plastic clips and I have had no problems at all with it.
Those of you who have had problems/have asked for a refund did you purchase these quite a while ago? Also do your covers have plastic or metal clips?
I personally will not be contacting Amazon as I have had no problems with my cover and I don't really like the lighted cover anyway. I hope they fix this probelm however and put them back on sale as if/when my current cover breaks I would be looking at replacing it, like for like.0
