I think I'm a bit obsessed too, I bought 32 packets of seeds at the weekend (4 for £1!)
So far I have sown 2 varieties of tomatoes, jalapenos and sweet peppers.
Am goimg to plant the baby rhubarb out when it stops raining!

Can you tell us where you got your seeds?
  • Managed to get a bit done in the past two days jumping in between the showers.

Finally potted up the mini orchard collection in John Innes no 3 and then put in some onion sets, radish and leek seeds. The garlic is already sprouting nicely. Have a plastic sheet covering this patch for the minute to hopefully keep the soil a bit warmer. Have also put some parsnip seeds on a bit of tissue paper on the window sill. I take it this has to be continually dampened when it dries?

Also planted some tomato, cucumber and sweet pepper seeds which are in a mini propagator in the spare room.

Then yesterday at 9.30 in the morning my order from Parkers arrived with 2 Top Hat Blueberry Bushes and 30 Rasp canes. One set didn't look as good as the other 2 - Tullameen I think the variety is named. The others looked fine but I ran out of space and have had to temporarily put some in pots. Any recommendations on what I should feed them would be appreciated.

Managed to house all the plants that came apart from 3 paeony plants - don't have a Scooby about these so some research called for I think!

The spuds are starting to chit too in the garage :)

Thanks to this thread I have today sown seeds for 3 varieties of tomato (1 more to do but the packet says they need to go in in a few weeks), mini peppers and 2 different chilli's. They're currently on my window sill. i also planted some lilly of the valley in pots in the hope that they'll flower in time to be used in my wedding bouquet!!
  • Well i finally made an effort at the allotment

    - Repaired the blown down fence
    - dug out last years cabbages (Eurgh - they smelt bad!!!!)
    - Dug over two beds

Off to get some compost in the morning and will sow some Leeks.

Next week buy some white onions (Reckon about 300) and plant these

:( I still have frozen soil and snow forecast for tonight and monday.
    .....I am not happy :(
  • 3 of the 5 types of chillies in my heated propagator have germinated and with my foil covered reflectors in place I hardly need to turn the propagator. B&Q had some of their basic heated propagators down to just under £10 (word of warning slightly odd size mainly due to the lid, it encroaches inward so that you the half size seed trays that fit in my other one do not fit in this one) so I couldn't resist and the second one now has california wonder, world beater, marconni sweet peppers and some hotscotch chillies (Mr !!!!!!!!!!! mixed seed packet of scotch bonnet and habanero). Best thing is that I bought 2 packets of the hotscotch seeds for £1 and one of the packs had 3 packets of seeds inside :j
Tomatoes will go in as soon as the first lot of chillies can be planted on, although I keep thinking about just putting them in an unheated propagator, must be strong.....
I have also sown some white aquilegia and some agastache golden jubilee today and potted up some self seeded penstemons. I love agastache, the aniseed scent the whole plant gives off is fantastic and there are always plenty of seeds and self sown seedlings. I bought one pack many years ago and have never needed to buy any more.

    Happy gardening everyone!

    Hi Daisymaisy

We got them in a small local garden centre in Plymouth. Some of them have 2011 as the use by date so I guess that's why they were selling them off so cheap.

Ahhh the growing season begins again :D

I've planted 25 birds eye chillis and 20 have germinated so will be potting those up this week.

I have been given a monster rhubarb plant which has been lying outside my friends house for two weeks and now my house for two weeks - I really want to plant this up today - it's about a foot square, should I divide it into 2 and plant both bits? Plus it's gone rhubarb mad and sprouted all over the place - have I left it too late?

I shall plant these so they are about 2 centimetres above the soil.

Here is my hunk of rhubarb, I think it needs dividing into at least two????? - I've had to do extra shifts at work so not coming home until dark and the weathers been awful here, it's drizzly today but I think I'm going to have to bit the bullet. Having looked at it again, it's more like 18 inches square!! (need to plant the soft fruit too :o). The instructions I've looked up on the internet say to work as much manure in as possible - can I just dig the holes and fill them with manure? Or would that be too rich?
