Veg to plant in February and things to do.

Seed potatoes should be guaranteed free of diseases. Like you, I have in desperation planted potatoes that looked a bit sprouty instead of eating them but there have been complaints on other threads this year of potatoes in the weekly shop that look ok but are black inside. I'm going to get all seed potatoes this year just in case last year's crop have something lurking.0

Afternoon everyone,
I got the urge to start my seeds off yesterday, I've planted chilli seeds, peppers, basil, aubergine, pinks and geranium seeds. I've got them all in trays on the windowsill/dining room table.
I've got a thermometer in the greenhouse which says the minimum temperature it's dropped to in there in the last few days is 5.5*C but I'm guessing it's too cold to leave the trays in there as it's not heated.
I've got umpteen other packets of seeds to plant up, gawd knows where I'm going to plant everything I think we're going to have to dig up the lawn at this rate :rotfl: and I've just ordered more seeds from Notcutts as someone kindly posted a £5 voucher code on there. I really must stop reading these forums

It'll soon be March and a load more seeds can be started off, never mind the first weeks in April :rotfl:0

Hi everyoneWell I am hoping to sow my tomatoes this weekend, does anyone have any good tips for them? What size pot should I start with-I have a selection, I have seed trays like those in Principia's picture, I have small pots (about 2 inches across) and then larger ones (maybe 3 inches across). Do I plant just one seed per pot or two? I have read so much conflicting advice about tomatoes! What else should I start this weekend, if anything? I have peas, drawf french beans (too early for these I think), cut and come again lettuce, spring onions, cucumber, radish...or should I just stick to my tomatoes? I am going to get some herbs going inside on the windowsill!ThanksFayp.s. love it when people post pics, I've put some up in Mr BadExamples thread of my chillis and sweet peppers.0

Well, my aubergines are not going to plan. I have already sown them twice, and nothing is coming through after weeks. I have put them in heated propagator - and nothing. The other variety is fine, but Rosa Bianca just won't germinate. I bought seeds of Ebay, and I am guessing they were 'off'. I just turned the tray out and found one seed that looks like it was growing - about 0.8cm length stem attached to it. And that is it. I am going to put some seeds that I have left on the damp cloth and see if I can get them to sprout. Maybe order a new package as well, not from the same seller!!!!
Oh, and after overwatering the first set of spinach, the second sowing decided not to come out either. I am hopeless.
On the good not though, my timber arrived this morning for the raised beds!!!! Can't wait to get stuck in and start building them. But need to do some work first, as I am working from home today!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
I planted my first seeds of the year yesterday. I've got basil, rosemary, chives, mint, flat leaf parsley, curly parsley, corriander, thyme, chilli, gardener's delight tomato, roma tomato, white icicle radish, kale, beetroot, musselburgh leeks, snowball turnip, salad bowl lettuce, little gem lettuce, hundred weight pumpkin... I think that's it!
I got one of those £12 mini plastic greenhouses from Wilkinsons. They're in seed trays inside the greenhouse which is inside the porch/conservatory. It's about 12 degrees I think, so I hope it's warm enough!
I don't really know what I'm doing but I'll give it my best shot. I've only got a few cells of each, not really sure how many I should be aiming for?!0 -
Hi all
I planted moneymaker and cherry tomatoes, jalapenos, sweet peppers, basil and parsley over the last couple of weeks and am really chuffed as they've nearly all germinated. However I planted coriander seeds a couple of weeks ago and not a sign of life at all yet so I wondered if I'm doing something wrong?
I put 3 seeds into each 3" pot and covered them with clingfilm. They are kept in my conservatory which is heated and SW facing so it gets lots of light.
Any advice would be gratefully received.Debt free Olympic Contender # 134DMP Mutual Support Thread member # 250DMP March 2010 [STRIKE]£9786 [/STRIKE] now £990
