Am back! Did you miss me??
Well 2 lots of news since this afternoon
1- DS1 has dyslexia ..... not sure how I feel about it tbh:) the senco lady has recommended he get an eye test with the view to having blue filter????????? I've not an inkling of what she is talking about
am happy that ds1 can finally say to his teachers that he does have something that is stopping him achieving as much as they'd like him to. They really push him sometimes and he gets very down telling me he has tried his hardest but it's never good enough for them. I think he also gets 10% extra time in all tests/exams. Not sure he will want that though as it will make him stand out. Also he is in the gifted & talented i'm hoping it won't affect this - too much change is never good for my son! And i really can't see him wanting to wear blue glasses
2- I checked my bank. Am flipping overdrawn again:(:( southern electric are taking £90 out tomorrow AS WELL!!!!!!!! my final bill apparantly. Even though i was in credit on the account by £70>??? so i must have had a final electric bill of £160 :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::mad:
AND i have npower charging me for switching on march 1st. Really not having a good money month am I!!!!!1
AM making a resolution to have as many NSD's next month as possible. Am also wanting to spend £200 on food (i can but try) £50 on petrol. £0 on clothes, hair, other pots which i can save on. And try and claw back some damage i did this month:) wish me luck:rotfl:

Hello hon...
Well that's a pretty big number! I know..have been there. Once blew that amount in a single shopping trip to Hobbs..justifying to myself it was for work clothes. Different times tho...no longer in that place ( altho I still love the clothes!!)
Everything to play for in March hey?!! And I also spend more when Oh is abroad...my best ever effort was when he went to the US for 2 weeks....he came back to a fully fitted new central heating system:rotfl:
Anyway we are with you sister...keep on going what is gone is gone
And.. DD2 was recently diagnosed with dyslexia and it did take a bit of effort to get the school to recognise there was a problem. Made all the more difficult as DD1 and OH and I find writing and reading really easy so there was no one about to really understand what she was going through. Really good you have the diagnosis though and specialist intervention is key. how old is your son?
Filters can help, not always though. It's a sheet of coloured plastic that helps the letters and numbers stop bouncing and jumping about. You have to work through the colours to see if any work for you. My DD doesn't seem bothered but I do think stark white paper is harder to see the text against. Do PM me if I can help at all..we are all in this together.
DD2 is also, again I am keeping pushing, now being tested for dyscalculia too..I think she struggles with some maths. But shes a bright little button in lots of ways..uses her memory as a strategy a lot and a demon fearless skier..at 8. So we all have things we find easy and some we find less easy. However it is interesting that she definitely feels, well vindicated,is that the word at being labelled as dyslexic. It helped her to have a reason. The school are also doing lots of work, every day with her.
Sorry for dominating your diary..but it's close to my heart!!
Hugs

I'd forgot about this so this was lovely to read, I am so glad you like the monitor and the treats, it has cheered me right up.
Just catching up with your news now, just read your spends and am relieved in a weird way, because it means it is normal to have blips and the main thing is being able to draw a line under it and keep going.
And at least you know about your son's dyslexia now and he can get the help he needs.

Glad to hear you are planning for a good month of budget keeping in march - think i will join in on this one too! Also good to hear that your son is beig looked after at school and they aknowledged his dyslexia. My brother never got the diagnosis but it was quite clear to us that this was his problem.
Glad you got some 'me time' at the weekend. It sounds like you needed it. OH must be very goodMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

good morning ladies
(& any gents if you're reading- bonnington?) :j
I spent most of yesterday evening googling dyslexiaI like to know what i'm dealing with lol. Thank you for all your replies about it. My son is 13  and never been picked up before now....he has in the past been in the gifted & talented for english
his spelling, although not atrocious is not brilliant either. His handwriting is what actually brought about the question as to whether he had it or not, so you can imagine how bad that is! He's in the gifted & talented for maths, science, history & art....i think he's struggled on regardless, and he also passed his 11+ :doubly confused: so i wonder now if we'd got help sooner if he would have done even better in the 11+ and got into grammar and could have stayed at home
i feel quite bad for never realising he could have had it!
My sister has it (1 of them) my mother & father have it. I have nephews, cousins, in laws who all have it and i never associated ds1 problems with dyslexia! DH has discalcula. I'm hoping now though that he has been diagnosed things might improve. The only lesson he has EVER struggled with is English- so maybe now he might be able to find some answers & helpwow i like to ramble on about randomness huh
NSD today. Has to be, am broke :rotfl:
Need to check bank, but not ready to yet as don't fancy tears in my cereal
Will try and catch up on diaries today :T have been reading everyone's but not posted *tut tut* :cool:MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. Hiya hon,
Please try not to worry too much about your lad, he's obviously a brainy !!!!!! and the dyslexia is just something that stops him being able to read/write words properly. It doesn't mean he can't do stuff. I have a friend who was diagnosed with it at secondary school (14 I think) and she's now a head mistress.
People with dyslexia include: Hans Christian Andersen, Orlando Bloom,Marcus Brigstocke, Cher,
Tom Cruise, Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Noel Gallagher, Whoopi Goldberg, Anthony Hopkins,Keira Knightley, John Lennon just to name a few!
Also, re the filter, I know a teacher who once reprinted handouts in green to help one student. And re extra time in exams, lots of kids, certainly once they get to college have extra time for all sorts of reasons. he just needs to concentrate on getting those grades, not whether he has some extra time or not x

:T thanks for that brizzle makes me feel a bit better lol, I don't know why schools are so hard to get tests out of! My poor sister had such bad dyslexia she could barely read (same as my mum) neither were ever diagnosed until adulthood....too late to do anything about getting decent grades for school!
You should keep pushing too, if i'd had any inkling ds had it i would have been down there like a shot and not left them alone until they had tested for it. Has your dd been told to use a filter? I often think that stark white is quite hard to read things against esp when i'm tired! My poor son has been complaining of headaches for ages. we had his eyes tested -fine. but now we know he may need a filter perhaps this might stop them

Does he have to wear orange glasses do you mean? I need to do some googling on this i've absolutely no idea what the senco lady was on about. I asked my sister (non dyslexic one) and she remembers 2 kids in her class wearing filters.......i must be in my own world (well i am actually most the time) as i never noticed these before lol
I'd forgot about this so this was lovely to read, I am so glad you like the monitor and the treats, it has cheered me right up.

And i think my son has only been diagnosed because he is at private school. I couldn't see the local comp doing anything about it (so glad i never took him straight out now) as he is in the 2nd set for english so although he struggles there are 2 more sets below him that must struggle even morea local would have just let him 'coast' as he was/is!
