  • Well what an eventful day yesterday turned out to be! I shall summarise so as not to bore ;)

    • managed to leave house at 7am.
    • arrived at mums half hour later than planned thanks to traffic
    • therefore arrived at ds1 school a little late
    • Went to parent's morning. HUGE queue to talk to any science teachers. So saw maths, english, art, spanish, history (all subject's he is interested in keeping for GCSE) all had praise for him :) he is in top set for maths, and at the top of the set. Second set for English, but at the top of it :j, doing fab in all other classes too....I also saw the senco teacher about dyspraxia/dyslexia tests. He is doing them when he goes back. She thinks it may be dyspraxia...we'll see?!
    • he got 8 a's, 3 b's and only 1 C :j
    • so we went to pub to celebrate with lunch :T
    • then back to mums
    • mini trip to lidl as i don't have one here :rotfl: dh thinks i'm barking mad
    • Dropped mum off at nan's
    • drive home........got stuck in tonnes of traffic trying to get onto A12  so decided to go the M11 route and made it home by 8.30......!
    • I went straight to bed, as did kids & ds1 & dh were left up to bond over the ps3 & x-box!!!
This morning my darling little children woke me at 3am. Both wanted to get into my bed. i let them in, went to get a glass of water. Came back and they'd spread all over the bed -including feet on dh's face *snigger* so i took a duvet and went downstiars and had a peaceful few hours on the sofa :p

Need to update spreadsheets today as still not done *slapped wrists* and then i am planning a day of nothing. I have a bit of a chest infection and hoping it will go on it's own as i don't want to have to go on antibiotics or steriod tablets again :( so refusing to go to dr's just yet but i'm being kept awake by asthma & coughing now most the night!! DH let me go back to bed this morning though and i didn't get up till 10am ;)

Will be a NSD today :j

ETA: ds2 has chicken pox at last!!!!!!! Spots found by my mum at her house lol!

  • ds2 is asleep :) poor little thing he seems to have it worse than his sister did.

I've been on my bank and have decided to try a different approach next pay day to splitting money into budgets! The envelope system worked well but it meant i had to go into town into branch to get the cash out needed. So have just opened MORE savings accounts. Updated my document with all their account number & sort codes & what they are for! Then set up standing orders to each one. SO if i need to get food I will transfer the money across to main account from it's budget account before I go.

So on pay day I have standing orders set up for :
    • car maintenance £80
    • Clothes £60 (kids & dh & me)
    • Gifts (xmas/b-days) £65
    • Grocery £250
    • Health £15
    • Landlord ins £10
    • school fees £165 (upped it slightly)
    • 2nd purse £20
    • Slush fund £50 (was called the holiday fund !!! )
So money will be split up from 1st of each month so i can easily see how much is left in each fund.......therefore making it easier to fill out spreadsheet! i've got into a right muddle with it this month what with the 2nd purse & grocery budget. I think i ended up putting some figures into both brackets and can't quite work out what is what  so will just leave it as it is and start properly on that one come march :rotfl:

Should also have an account for Petrol.....but i'm unsure if i will have the money in there as my child benefit is still paid weekly......i may adjust the pots so that £150 is paid into grocery budget as that is the maximum i spend in first week. And may put £100 in a petrol account. That way i can use the £47 each week for topping up food budget & petrol budget.

Must also remember the 3 dd's that come out after the 15th of each month. I've been struggling to pay these last 2 months

So I may even do another pot and put the money for those 3 in at beginning of month and just transfer over the day before they are due.......hmmmmmmm. yes think i shall go do that now :)

So need 2 more accounts. One for petrol & one for dd's paid late in month!

So far I have 11 accounts for varying things :eek: HSBC must think i'm nuts...esp with one named 2nd purse & another 'healthy fund' :rotfl::rotfl:

  • Glad you had a safe journey yesterday. :)
Glad DS1 is doing well with his results and the groups he is in. All great news and you must be proud. :D

It made me smile when I read how many savings accounts you have. :rotfl:
Can't you change the direct debits which come out on the 15th to come out earlier in the month?

I hope the temperature hasn't been too bad for you today. Up here in Scotland I think it's been about 7 degrees and we have no snow. :j
Even managed to get some washing on the line. First time for about 6 months.

I hope you have a nice Sunday. :D

  • Your posts over the last few days have made me smile !! You sound so much happier , despite the chicken pox, dishwasher and savings account maze !

We think its the heating element in our dishwasher as well , so I am still washing up :(

Sounds like DS1 is doing brilliantly at school, what a clever lad ! I hope he had a lovely time bonding with his dad and that you enjoy having him home for the next week. Hope the little one feels better soon

I drove home at 8.30 last night and the temperature was -5.5

Have a lovely day today x
