Coupons/Voucher Questions

Since joining MSE, I have tried EVERY supermarket in my locality in East London.
Not one store of any name will take the money off vouchers/coupons, unless you actually buy the product.
My local Tesco wouldn't even take their own coupons recently! I asked at customer service what their policy was on taking money off coupons.
The lady told me "If we sell the product, we will take the coupon, regardless of if you buy that product or not".
So on my next visit, I took about £3 odd of coupons. Got to the till and.......................they wouldn't take them "Unless you buy the product".
I told them what CS had told me and she said "I don't know about that! But I do know we don't take 'em"
What's a girl to do????

I've only been using vouchers for products I haven't bought fairly recently. For the pat few months this has been working without any problems.
I went into Tesco the other day and was told that the staff had been informed that they can only accept one voucher per customer, if they haven't purchased the item!!!
Anybody else had this experience recently? Don't know if this was just apolicy introduced to that particular branch or across Tesco as a whole.0 -
I've tried to use 15 off 50 at Sainsburys, having used it 4 times at Tescos. I rarely ever shop at Sainsbury's - I don't understand why they don't go through.
I have transformed the 6 digit code into the 12 format that Sainsbury needs yet these don't seem to come up. Any ideas?0 -
I've moved your post here as all coupon/voucher questions are being posted here.

Tesco seem to leave it up to each individual store regarding their coupon policies, not nationwide, at the moment*!"£$%^&*()0 -
If you use the self-service checkout in tescos, can you scan money off vouchers yourself like you do your clubcard? I shouldn't think you can but has anyone tried?0

Again, depends on each store as it is at the store managers discretion. I've tried 4 different tescos. All tills let me self scan the coupons but thereafter the process was different at each store. In one store, for every voucher the supervisor had to come & over ride the till before it could accept another. The simplest was when the supervisor had to come to over ride after putting them all through.
Also, if the voucher won't scan you can't get it through on these tills.
I've definitely seen much stricter acceptance criteria in Tesco this year. On a number of occasions the till operator advised Tesco don't accept the £5 off £50 sainsburys vouchers but when I went to customer services, they gave me the money in cash.
My local Asda is more appealing every week! Hope this helps0 -
We have a newly opened 24hr tesco extra near where I live, so I went in today and asked customer services what tescos policy was on accepting vouchers when you don't actually buy the product. The man said they don't accept them at all. You have to buy the product. However, it was a different story at the checkout. The girl said it depends on how much you're spending and how much the vouchers are for, but generally if they'll scan, they'll accept them. She scanned a voucher which I'd cut out from the free Tesco magazine but it came up on screen as a 'required voucher' meaning you have to buy the product. This is probably because they can't claim the money back from themselves can they? I'll save these for use in Asda.0

Well don't bother trying to use them in Morrisons , because they are really strict and you have to buy the actual product before they will accept them.
I have even had to rummage through my packed shopping to prove I have bought the item!
I would go somewhere else but they are so handy........and the buy one get one frees, are second to none!0 -

Nope, I'm glad to say our Tesco is still the same - they accept pretty much anythingThat's including Sainsbury's and Somerfield product coupons. Hope this will last
