Awww thanks for the warm welcome ladies :)

I hear ya White Sapphire - I'm having to store everything I've bought so far at my mum's house because I just kept getting it all out to look at and I was scared I'd break/damage something!!

Bubbles, try not to stress about the ring too much - I'd email them when the ring arrives and ask for the delivery cost to be refunded but at the end of the day you'll still have the perfect ring and you can say it was shipped especially from 5th Avenue just for you!!

If anyone has any ideas for centrepieces I'd appreciate it, because the barn is thatched we can only have tealights and they can't sit more than 2inches above the table (including flame). I LOVE the below but I don't know if I'm going to be able to do it for 8 or 9 tables within budget.

Is anybody having something other than candles or flowers for their centrepieces? The tables are square (two trestle tables put together) and my colours are pale pink & ivory.

I may need to get table linen out of the £100 too (need to speak to caterers), along with some ivy to decorate around the dancefloor area and tealights & votives to sit in the window sills. I'd also love a birdcage to sit on the bar... Argh I'm never going to do it within budget!!
  • You can do it on budget but it will take alot of research what about a sweetie centre piece?a fish bowl type receptacle filled with sweets

I think i should have some sort of recompense yeah it does sound good though doesn't it: -)

  • my friend recently got married and she had square glass vases (cheap from ikea!) on square plates (ditto!) with a few decorative pebbles in the bottom (free from the river), full of water, and with candles and flowers floating in the top.

It looked so beautiful! I'm kinda wishing mine weren't so sorted already!
    Life on a shoestring!

We're having a candy buffet - seeing as we're only serving a BBQ it'll save £££ on serving dessert to 150ppl. I did think we could do the sweets as centrepieces but there won't be enough seating for everyone around the tables so we're going with the buffet format.

Oooh I can see how that would look amazing!! We can't have the floating candles though :(

You've inspired me re. the square plates from Ikea though - I was thinking I'd have to spend £3.50ea for a 30cm mirror plate but I had a look on their website and they sell packs of 4 square mirrors for £5.99 so less than half the price! And they come in a normal square or with slightly rounded corners (look up product name LOTS or SORLI) :j I just hope I don't have to sort tablecloths from the £100 budget or I think it'll push me over the edge!!
  • Hello ladies - been away from here for a bit but *wave*! No further on with the planning :-( Went to see a florist about 10 days ago who was to email me back but nothing yet... Still, got plenty if ideas about favours and invites to keep me going!

Just a bit of info for anyone hoping to look at The Orangery in Heaton Park as a venue - they're expecting to close next year and are cancelling bookings for 2012. Sad news, thankfully not my venue though.

    Hope everyone's well and happy!xx

Try flower markets or look at foam roses or Peonies from ebay. You could use jam jars as vases.

I'm really glad that you can still get your dream ring bubbles, even if it is turning into a bit of a mission! You should definitely push for a refund of the express delivery costs, after all you didn't get what you'd paid for in that respect. Any chance of a peek at the ring please? :D

Those centrepieces are stunning - Scotsbride has taken the words out of my mouth re jam jars and foam roses!! As for birdcages, ebay (again!), or places like gumtree or freecycle - if you place a wanted ad you might be lucky. Worth a try anyway!
