  • Another date twin for me with lizbristol!! Judging by your username we're getting married close to each other as well - you never know, we might pass each other in our posh cars! :D

Ah yes, you never know! I'm actually getting married in Bath (despite the username!) and having a reception in Bradford-On-Avon in a marquee. So lots to organise!

Anyone else doing a marquee reception? Would be good to swap ideas for decoration :)

  • Hey All,

Much better mood today! I've been looking at flowers :D

I've been quoted £250 for Brides Bouquet and Bridesmaids Bouquet (white roses with teal ribbons) 8 button holes, and 5 lily vases for the tables with white roses, eucalyptus and gypsophila with teal rose petals scattered at the base of the vase.

    What do people think?

  • hi ladies

i have changed the colour of my dress to ivory after i took mny flower girl dresses to the shop and put them next to the white dresses. they are not white, in fact they are a light ivory so made sense to change

day 1 of exercise routine - i have just done a brisk 45 minute walk round our country park which is on my doorstep so lots of good hills and windy paths, got the heart rate pumping and the OH is now cooking me a very healthy dinner.

Day 1 of get fit and tone up failed due to having a shortbread biscuit. on the positive side did walk 3 miles today mostly up and down hill. maybe that worked off the biscuit!

Oh, Bradford-on-Avon's lovely! As is Bath, obviously :D SIL2B had a marquee reception, and just decorated it with lots of bunting - it looked beautiful. I've also seen fabric drapes across the ceiling of the marquee, which gives it quite a sophisticated look. Depends what your personal style and budget are. Are you decorating it yourself or do the marquee hire people give you options? I personally think that as B-on-A is very Olde Worlde pretty that bunting would look amazing. But then, that's just me - put bunting on ALL the things!!! lol

That sounds like a very good price for all of that. Is that the only quote you have though? I'd ask around and see what other quotes you get, and then play the florists off against each other... :money:

One shortbread biscuit doth not a diet failure make! Sounds like you've done pretty well actually, given the three mile walk (which will have burned off the biscuit and then some!), and that you only had one biscuit, as opposed to the three or four I would've snaffled :o

I had a brainwave a couple of days ago re favours - we're probably doing fudge (H2B knows someone), and I was trying to think of a way to present it that wouldn't cause too much wastage. It occurred that we could wrap them in fabric pieces (having wrapped them in cellophane or hopefully a biodegradable substitute first to avoid sticky fabric and bits stuck to the fudge!), which I could then use to make a quilt or throw (possibly for a nursery ;)). So we get pretty favours and a memento for us to boot! Obviously if anyone wants to take their fabric piece home that is fine too, but I suspect most will be left on the tables after the fudge is eaten. So today I have bought some gold and cream fabric pieces from ebay - v excited! :o

Ooh, and I'm thinking of making wildflower seeded paper to write the name tags on, to continue the minimum wastage theme - if anyone doesn't take theirs we'll plant them in our allotment :D

  • eep exercise routines! ... I seem to have been eating more and more biscuits, cakes, chocolates etc since we set the date, it must be because I'm happy! No exercise routines for me though... I'm hoping 3 walks a day with the dog is enough :)

White_Sapphire - I like the fudge based favours idea... ummmm fudge! I thought the quote was good too, when I looked some other places were quoting £100 plus just for my bouquet...

In just over a week my wedding will be less than a year away! EEEEEEEEK! :D

P.S. Have resolved my step-mum stress. I figure she can be there, and she can be as drunk as she likes, there are plenty of other people there (and I want to be there) who i'll be spending my time with so I'll be happy happy happy :)
Also my OH was nice enough to suggest he spoke to my Dad (I didn't let him) but the offer was enough to make me happier about things because I know he won't let anything spoil the day.
    EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPP WEDDING :D

  • White_Sapphire: could you wrap the fudge in rice-paper before the fabric? Biodegradable AND edible!

Amybettb: your enthusiasm is infectious! I'm feeling all happy and wedding-y today!

Hurrah! We've finally settled on evening food - found a different hog-roast company which will also cook and serve jacket potatoes and bean chilli for the veggies! So now we don't have to worry about it at all!

Am planning on organising a 'cheese cake' (as in a 'cake' made out of whole wheels of cheese) as a surprise for the OH - but whole wheels of cheese are very expensive! Cheapest we've seen so far for a three-tier 'cake' is £90. Do you think it'll be worth it? He really does love cheese, it'll be fun, AND, it'll be the cheeseboard for the guests!

Other news is that I've finally organised another Humanist celebrant after our first had to cancel (her son is marrying on the same day as us!) and, wonderfully, he doesn't need his deposit for a few months yet - so we have a while to save up for that.
    Life on a shoestring!
  • Amy, I'm glad that you're feeling better about your SM being there - like you say, if she acts up there will be loads of people there to protect you from her, so to speak! I think that you're being the bigger person by not allowing her to cause any kind of rift within the family.

The Seventh, you're a flippin' genius! :T:T I will definitely look into that, thank you!

Your evening food sounds lush! I adore hog roasts, and bean chilli is yummy too. £90 for a cake of cheese actually doesn't sound too bad when you think of how much cheese will actually be in it! Plus, all the accoutrements like grapes, crackers, etc. I reckon if you can fit it into the budget then go for it!

Good news about the Celebrant too - we've booked ours and need to get the deposit to her ASAP
