I've told my OH about it all (he knows the dress is gold, traditional-ish, and has a lace-up back) and he's seen stuff like the tiara, the fabric we're making a veil out of, the shoes, and so on. But he's not allowed to see the dress itself, or anything next to anything else (am keeping the overall effect as a surprise!)Life on a shoestring!0

I didn't actually think I was that unorganised until I saw how much everyone else on here had planned we've booked our church and found our venue and got my evening dress and thats it
Everything else seems to be really hard to do at the minute

Joanne, congrats on finding the dress - it is beautiful!
As for what I've told H2B about my outfit, he knows the dress colour (we sort of chose it together when at a wedding fayre; we both saw a dress and went "THAT colour"!), he knows it's not a full-skirted ballgown affair and that it has a 1930s feel. The way I see it, that's information that will come in handy when he chooses his suit. Everything else is being kept secret though!
Daniella, as long as you have the church and venue sorted, you really have nothing to worry about at this stage. Just do one bit at a time; my current task is choosing our Humanist celebrant; when that's done we will look at photographers. After the photographer is chosen we'll look at DJs. There are people on this forum who planned an entire wedding from scratch in a couple of months, and H2B's sister has done it in 6 months (got engaged in Feb this year, the wedding's next Saturday). A year is plenty of time to get stuff done, and we're always around to help google/negotiate/decide etc. If you've got loads of other stuff going on as well then you could take a few weeks off from wedding planning, maybe assign a task or two to your H2B like researching DJs and getting quotes, then come back to it when you're feeling up to it

:TGreat news on the dresses Katyann and Joanne!
The Emma dress is lovely, and a great price, esp as its coming from USA!
The Phil Collins collections are really nice arent they, not been proper dress shopping yet, but hoping to cry too when I try on THE dress! You just know its the one then dont you. Chuffed for you both!
Oooohhh its just sooooo exciting, everyones plans are coming together so well.
Im not planning on showing my OH THE dress, but he has a rough idea of what kind of style dress im looking for. I want it to be a magical surprise! Hopefully, for the one day in my life, ill feel like a princess, and hopefully he'll think I look like one! hahaha.
Fiona, have to agree, we have a whole year left, and shouldnt beat ourselves up about not getting everything organised and finished right now. Once the wedding and reception venue is booked, (and possibly the photographer as they seem to get booked up quick!) everything else isnt an urgent task. Phew! I dont know if I could do it all in a couple of months, good on your SIL for getting all hers sorted out.
I dont know if this has been post before or something like it, or even if ive posted it myself before (i got a memory like a sieve!) but I downloaded a wedding planner from somewhere, think it was wedding show, but thought it would be helpful to post it for you daniellac and for anyone else who may find it useful...

Aw Daniellac do NOT panic there is LOADS of time! Although I've found my dress I don't need to order until December as the lead time is 5 months and then time for any alterations etc. Just do one task at a time and yes VERY important to take a weeks break and just not think about it as it is overwhelming. Now the dress is done I'm taking some time off as I have no hols yet til October to take a half day to meet my aunt to get card for starting the invitations so in my view I can do NOTHING! Hee hee!! Have been looking at accessories for hair etc. but thinking I should wait until dress is actually ordered....
Hugs it can be overwhelming but just take a step back and remember that the most important thing is that you and H2B get married and are happy the rest is by the by.

My H2B knows the style of the dress...as it fits in with our theme, but he wont know anything else!
Its going to be difficult keeping it from him though as we share everything else.
Danielle, I felt the same when I joined this forum...I have literally nothing booked!
I'm not panicking though as now is the time to shop around and finalise all the ideas.

Can I just ask what are everyone's thoughts on a sit down wedding breakfast as opposed to a buffet style meal.
I'm looking at options and having a sit down meal is so expensive!
Will guests expect this?
Thanks in advance xxx0 -
Hi Katyann, just about your meal, I dont think guests these days expect anything in particular. After speaking to quite a few venues recently, i came to realise that people have such different things.
Especially at the venue I have chosen, they will do absolutely anything you want, and they even have a bride who wants fish and chips in paper for the evening! We are having Afternoon tea reception, and then pie supper (steak pie, pork pie, HM mushy peas/beans, chips, and there there will be chilli and jacket potatoes aswell) for evening!
I found sit down meals expensive too and quite formal, a friend of mine is getting married the month before us and the venue she has will only let you have a sit down meal, with one choice (and a vegi option). I think it just depends on what kind of reception you want. My friends is going to quite formal and set, where as mine is hopefully going to be informal with homemade hearty food that ppl have a choice of.
I came to the decision that the reception and the food should be what we want and what we can afford. Just do what you and your OH want0
