Thanks Fiona :D The more I look at it, the more I love it! Im picking it up tomorrow so I can do a little parade for my step mum who hasnt seen it yet! And my Auntie....my mum wants to have another look at it too! And im thinking of even showing Daniel with me in it..... I know but i just dont know if I can wait until the day!!! My mum says its bad luck :(

The seamstress has said she can do a sweetheart neckline, it will be sort of ruched, which im coming round to the idea of...although she cant see me for another month (i cant wait that long!!) and she seemed rather expensive compared to another dress shop ive been to where the owner is also a dressmaker/seamstress, so im going to take my dress to her to see what she can do :)

My list is pretty much the same as yours at the moment. (Except the sweet peas...!)

My Dad and stepmum may be getting our car and cake as a gift which is very nice. :T Ive seen a car I like and have an idea of how I want the cake to look. My step mum works at a college where there is a cooking/baking teacher who makes cakes for friends and family so she is going to ask her if she is able/wants to do it, although she has really cut down on the cakes she makes for people these days, but its worth asking her as her cakes taste and look lovely.

As for the hen do... I have no idea what to do. I fancied a meal, theatre, followed by drinks but its not everybodies cup of tea. A couple of my friends would love it, but most wouldnt I dont think :( I didnt really wanna just go out and get drunk in our local town, its pants! My OH wants to do an activity for his stag do, a proper boys thing, rather than just go out and get hammered! And I think id like to do the same, although im not very girlie so a pamper day or something like that wouldnt be my thing.

What is everyone else thinking of doing?

    Hello Ladies,

Hen Do's - mine is the middle of June & all been arranged by my wonderful BM. I gave her some ideas of what I wanted to do & more importantly what I didn't want!! It's all a bit of a suprise but it's along the lines of going to Birmingham & spending the afternoon in a spa:D & then we are going to one of the Greek restaurants in the city(in keeping with the wedding:rotfl:) although I don't expect the food to be anywhere near as good as it is in Rhodes. I think the restaurant has entertaimnet on so will probably stay there or go to a pub or back to the hotel where we are staying. Thats all I know really & I'm not supposed to know that much but someone told me as they did not know she had not told me. I don't do drinking loads & hate night clubs & if anyone springs a stripper on me i'm going home:mad: So hoping that a fun meal & a few drinks will keep everyone happy. I think there will be 7 of us to start at the spa & then another 3 will join at the hotel later in the afternoon & another is meeting at the restaurant.

It is hard to try & think of something everyone will enjoy but at the end of the day it's supposed to be something you want to do too. Like my Mum & her friend are coming down but they don't like spa's so are going off shopping which has not gone down too well with my bm as she says it's supposed to be about me & not them & she has told my Mum, that's what comes as having a bm who job is very high powered in London:rotfl:

    Hopefully it will be good:D

Awww Fawny, i like that your hen do is in keeping with your Greek Wedding ;)

And yes, a stripper would definately be a no no for me too! I would die on the spot!
  • Afternoon lovely brides and grooms!!

Just think it's 19/20/21/22 weekends until we get married!! Now if that doesn't give you a kick up the bum to get some things knocked off the to do list I don't know what will.

That gave me the fear this week when I realised it's about 20 weekends for us and 7 of those are out due to weddings/hen/stag etc. so have shot on this week. Some more stationary bits have been done, kilt was ordered today and also went into jewellers to arrange engraving of our bands so that is done.

Now away to do some more printing and cutting and sticking :) oh the glamour but feel better getting another wee bit done you know? It's raining here anyway shock horror so just having a quiet night in!! Trying to shift this last stone so no vino :(

Eeeeeek Joanne that is scary  Best crack on...

Our wedding rings arrived yesterday but we were out when they were delivered so they're stuck at the Post Office until next week. So near & yet so far!!

Oh, and I bought a wedding dress yesterday - whoops!!! The whole shopping experience was supposed to make me realise that I loved the Monsoon dress I already have, and I tried on some beautiful dresses which only looked OK on, so I was winning, but then I tried on this one and got the "Wow" feeling :D:D:D

    photo-1.jpg

I'm going to have the back altered as it's longer than I wanted, so I'm having it made into a puddle train so it'll look a bit like this (please excuse the sponges down my back - the dress needs taking in a bit at the top :rotfl:)

    photo-2.jpg

It's a £900 dress and I paid £400, plus I reckon about £100 for alterations. Not exactly MSE but it's coming from my savings rather than the wedding budget (because I haven't told OH - that can wait until after we're married!! :o) and I'll hopefully sell the Monsoon dress to make a big of money back.

I feel like a massive weight has lifted and I'm actually looking forward to the wedding now rather than dreading it as I was worried OH wouldn't like my other dress, but I just know he'll love this one :D

Invitations are this week's project - need to check I can print them at home, then order & start sticking!!

Plus centrepieces, I got 5 30x12cm cylinder vases from work so will need another 7... Hopefully I can "acquire" them but if not I'll buy from an online florist somewhere...

I haven't had time to read back through the thread and I've got to dash now as I'm learning to drive a narrowboat today, but I was too excited to wait to share the dress news!!! I'll be back later to catch up properly xxx
  • Great news on your dress Roz!! It looks absolutely stunning! :T

It IS MSE, given that you've paid less than 1/2 price for it, and can afford it. :money:

BTW, you are very pretty, and very photogenic, and I am completely not jealous (that last bit may have been a lie :D)

    Hello all,

Wow is it that few weekends Joanne:eek: Hope the sticking & cutting goes to plan. Hope the weight loss goes well, i'm sure you will do it.

Roz - the dress is beautiful, you look lovely:D As Fiona says it was 1/2 price so it's a great buy.I'm sure you will be able to sell the Monsoon Dress no problems.

Bestman has been round this morning & looked at the shirts, his wife is going to order it out of the Next book as he's not sure what collar size he needs so will be easier if they do it & we will give them the money. He also has a pair of tan shoes that almost match OH's so we don't need to buy him any:j We have decided that we are going to hire the trousers as OH really like the ones at the shop & BM has said they will bring them home so we won't need the extra long hirer, so will be cheaper:D

  • Roz wowser that is very very beautiful!

Can you return the other dress to Monsoon for a full refund at all? Not sure how long you have had it for but could be worth a try?

My sticking went well til I ran out of tape....haven't started again today but just emailed our choices for our menu tasting so that's another job done :)

Thank You all so much for the lovely comments about my dress :o You made me blush :o I'm not a confident person usually but felt on top of the world in that dress. Also the chiffon overlay and boned structure make it very forgiving - so I went to the chippy for tea :rotfl: The shop is closing for refurb for a couple of weeks so I'll pick it up at the end of May and book a seamstress appointment straight away so its not in the house... I've had the Monsoon dress for too long to be able to return it so I'll try EBay & Preloved.

Hi yummymummy :waves: could you print plain cream from Vistaprint and then add some purple embellishment (ribbon, diamantes or whatever) when they arrive if you're struggling to find something exactly right on Vistaprint?

Nat - the ruching on your dress sounds lovely :) I know how you feel about showing OH, I can barely contain my excitement, and considering he's not supposed to know I've bought a second one it's going to be soooo tough!! Any progress on the hen do? I'm doing cocktail making one of the evenings on my weekend - I figured it would be a laugh and that we wouldn't drink as much as if we were out on the town so would be mum-friendly :rotfl:

Fawny, your hen do sounds great :) I've told OH's sister who has helped me to organise it that I absolutely 100% don't want to see a willy all weekend - real or fake :rotfl: fab news that you've sorted menswear too :D

    Hi again Saintly :waves:

White Sapphire, how's the dress coming along? And the invitations? Sounds like you've had a productive week - sometimes the list looks worse than it actually is and things don't take that long. I'm sure it's warmer down south, but my sweetpeas aren't yet planted outside as we're still getting some frost, so maybe you're not behind on that ;)

Joanne, I just worked it out that I have 20 weekends before the wedding and of those only 7 are completely clear in my diary  need to book my hair trial for one of those, and a shopping trip with my mum on another, a third is my birthday, another is around my sister's due date and we need to have our Pre-wedding photography shoot... thank goodness for the longer lighter evenings!!!

Thank you all again for being so lovely xx
