Cheapest car to insure

I can't believe of all the hours I've wasted getting insurance quotes on silly cars I'll never buy I've never done one on a Lada! Guess what I'm going to do now...
EDIT: Forget the Lada, according to autotrader and ebay there are precisely zero roadworthy ones for sale...0 -
What's a Smart cost?
Have a look at some of the others with 600cc engines.
Smarts aren't generally cheap to insure (IIRC ours was group 8 from 20) - if you hit something they damage very easily and are expensive to put right.
If you damage the tridion (the main space frame which is exposed) it can't be repaired.
They are also favoured by 'modders' because they have a turbo - this means with a couple of hunded quid and a few clicks of a mouse your 60bhp runabout with a limited top speed of about 85mph can have 100 bhp and no speed limiter. As a result they get crashed, resulting in claims0 -

Was there ever a roadworthy Lada? for sale or otherwise.
This is going to sound odd, but as an experiment, get a quote for him on a 1.8 diesel Mondeo.
These are typically "dad's car" so don't get crashed by youngsters so much. You might get a better quote.0 -
Mondeos do get crashed alot. They are used by company reps. And I would bet that there were more claims on Mondeos, due to the volume on the roads, that were on Smarts or Ladas. I've got a full no claims bonus and there is absolutely zero chance of him being a named driver on my policy.0

They do weigh in the number of cars on the road when doing the stats.
How many Mondeos crashed by youngsters, do you reckon?
I wasn't suggesting putting him on your policy BTW. Just that a Mondeo may be cheaper to insure. Try it even though it sounds daft.0 -
Waste of my time - cheapest £4009 - most expensive £9947. This was for a 2001 'X' Mondeo 1.8 diesel at £7500
