as i want to know the financial diff between working pt time and getting housing and council tax benefit and working pt time and on ebay and getting tax credits and less housing benefit council tax benefit.
it pays to work as much as possible hence the reason for working tax credits, but is it worth doing the extra hours on ebay and making hardly a profit sometimes to justify getting the 30 hrs a week tax credit.
maybe some forum readers have done this and can state how much better off they were after they had to pay higher rent tax, despite getting a high tax credit award.
Remember your partners' income will need to be declared for tax credit purposes aswell ;)

This seems like an awfully sneaky way of getting extra free money. I suspect you are not going to be doing any real work on Ebay. It is just a con - fraudulent is the word that springs to mind.

It is something HMRC have picked up on too - they are being much more proactive in auditing such claims. ;)
    Gone ... or have I?

not a sneaky way, its being an entrupenuer, having the skill to see an opening without having to constantly look on job centre to see if there are pt time jobs x2 that reward me and find out there is none or if there is someone beats me to the job.
the government reward those that are self employed and running a pt time electronic pc business namely a ebay business seller is self employed.if not i would open a market stall, would you comment on that.

i WAS A TAXI DRIVER DOING 5 DAYS OF 12 HRS A DAY, BUT LuCKY IF WE ACTUALLY DROVE FOR 1O MINS AN HOUR, THE OTHER 50 MINS SPENT IN THE RANK QUEING UP AFTER RETURNING FROM OUR LAST £2.50 FARE. sat there moving up the rank.but still self employed, so would you or the tax credits office question the actual work i did if i claimed tax credits back then, yeah like you sit on ur backside sleeping at taxi ranks for 5o mins every hour then claim you worked for 12 pure hours., 5 days a week.
next you will be saying taxi drivers can only claim the actual work, like 10 hrs a week cos thats the total hours the car moves on hires once it moves from the rank after sittingthere amongst dozens of taxis in front of you for hours on end.
I then went on to bus driving and its every minute you are out driving on ur wage slip, when a driver does 38hrs a week, he has been out on the road for those 38hrs. hence maybe your reason to prevent taxi drivers, ebay business sellers from claiming as it isnt real work done

You have to claim as a couple and as your partner works full time why dosnt she claim then you dont need to bother about the ebay thing?

If you are thinking of doing it you really need to keep proper records. As dmg24 has said TCO are being much more rigid in policing claims made by the self-employed. Claimants are being asked to provide proof of their trading and evidence of how they advertise their business and attract their customers.

cos if she does 40 hrs and i do 20 hrs in our jobs then we earn too much to claim working tax credit, but if she looses her job, she is on a trial period at mo, rather than her on dole and me earning little on 20hrs, i could work on ebay to make it up to 30 hrs and get more money due to us.
the rules state one of us has to do 30 hrs, if eg i worked 28 hrs and she did 29 hrs, beleive it our not we cant claim crdits, one person in a couple must do the 30hr min limit to claim.

But if you make a claim you make it as things stand now. As of now she is working full time so why assume she is going to lose her job?

It just seems the way nowadays, there are a lot of lazy people around that do not want to work.

Or do the minimum to maximise their benefits.
