30 hr tax credits and ebay

Options
Ive wondered if i keep my 20 hr week job and cos i have no kids i cant claim tax credits, so not really any better of than someone on jsa free rent, but i change my ebay account to a business seller, pay the £3 week fee, say 10 hrs a week buying stuff at charity shops, moitoring my ebay account, goingto post office, even if i broke even I could claim a decent tax credits amount.
any advice.

you'd have to register as self employed, keep proper accounts and pay tax and NI ( if your COMBINDED earnings go over whatever your tax code allows)

yes i understand, but even if you made no profit or even a loss, this is declared on ur tax credit form along with ur pt time job wages, it would be still very low grand total and be below the 647 tax code and hence no tax payable and maybe entitled to the max tax credits, but then again, if you got max working tax credits you would be paying some rent and council tax.but still better off than only pt time wage and almost fullrent and council tax benefit

Are you capable of preparing your own accounts, or will you need to pay someone to do this for you?
    Gone ... or have I?

capable, i was a taxi driver in past and done my own books and tax return.Im asking is the extra hours on ebay asa business worth it to get tax credits as its annoying if you are emplyed say 28 or 29 hrs and you cant claim it.
As its very hard to fins a second job let alone a first job that takes you to the 30 hrs limit, too many pt time jobs out there and if youdont have kids your financially worse off than a single parent that only needs to work 16 hrs as these pt time jobs seem to be taken by. sometimes folk with no kids have to take pt time jobs and cant claim working tax credit, childrens tax credit.
a female friend with a son I know makes over £100 more than me working pt time in a supermarket and her credits than i make working more hours than her, but still below the magic 30 hrs threshold.andi can ssure you her son is at school when she works so no problems, but she doesnt spend her extra £100 on his food/clothes.

i think it'd be difficult to prove that you spend 10 hours a week doing it.
my daughter buys and re sells on ebay, and it takes her about 4 hours a week (and she makes a profit lol)

I spoke to tax credits and they said just put down what hours i spend on ebay related tasks, eg checking the pc, time taken to vist charity shops, deduct petrol, stationary, postage, portion of road tax, insurance,( for net profit, tax purposes) bagging, boxing, advertising , taing pictures.
they said its how long it takesme and they said there is no set speed limit or how long it takes you to do those tasks, its my pace as long as all my work adds up to 30hrs then I can claim.
sometimes when im selling on ebay at mo as a private seller i can spend hours watching bids, answering emails, browsing pc to look out for items i can buy and if i get bored of them or want a change sell it later, even if its from the comfort of my armchair its all classed as working hours related to the business if i turn it into a business that is.

as i want to know the financial diff between working pt time and getting housing and council tax benefit and working pt time and on ebay and getting tax credits and less housing benefit council tax benefit.
it pays to work as much as possible hence the reason for working tax credits, but is it worth doing the extra hours on ebay and making hardly a profit sometimes to justify getting the 30 hrs a week tax credit.
maybe some forum readers have done this and can state how much better off they were after they had to pay higher rent tax, despite getting a high tax credit award.

This seems like an awfully sneaky way of getting extra free money. I suspect you are not going to be doing any real work on Ebay. It is just a con - fraudulent is the word that springs to mind.
