Its an electric one. Has been stored well in a bag in kitchen cupboard so doesn't look dirty or anything. Guess I am just worrying!
As OH points out we don't have loads of money to be spending so whatever we can re-use from DS we should do.

Hi Flower -I will be reusing my electric steriliser from DD and I remember that In Boots they sold descaling tablets I thinjk which were really effective - so maybe try using them again to make sure its had a good clean x
  • I just assumed increased fluid was all part of the weirdness that is pregnancy. Hope you are feeling better Cleofish

Yes I saw those, so will pick some up I think. Will certainly be cheaper than buying a new steriliser!

Cleofish - sorry to hear that you have had such a traumatic day! I have only just stopped bleeding in the last week since losing one of our twins at 12 weeks, but I have noticed now the bleeding has stopped that I have had increased discharge so hopefully that is all it is for you!
Hope you are managing to relax a bit after a stressful day xx

Hi everyone, I had my 20 wk scan today in the hospital I had the cvs carried out at 11 weeks, which is about an hour away from my local hospital.

Ive been feeling like I have been leaking fluid a little, I was worried it was amniotic fluid leaking possibly because of the cvs, as it didnt seem to be wee as it was happening when I stood up from sitting or lying down. sorry for the tmi!

So I thought id ask the question and id have the scan and it would be all ok, but when i spoke to the woman she instantly said it sounds like your waters have gone! :( I thought at worst it would be a leak, that they would be able to monitor. I asked what will that mean and she said its never good this early on! :(

I had brought oh and his mum along for the scan (thinking a 20 wk scan would be nice and happy!) and I had asked them to wait outside while I had a little chat with the woman but they could see how white I had gone after coming out after having speaking to her, I hadnt wanted to worry them so I then had to explain in the waiting room, everything that she had just said, poor oh's mum didnt know what to say.

Well we had the scan they went through the whole anomaly scan, which just went over my head all i was concerned about was the fluid level and that was the last thing they checked! But they managed to see everything they wanted and all looked ok and the liquid level was good as well, but just in case they made an appointment at my local hospital for this afternoon to have an examination to have a look at where the fluid is coming from.

So we went from 1 hospital to my local hospital which is an hour away, had the examination but because they said my cervix was hard to find and they had to route around she managed to make it bleed while trying to get samples and have a look!
After everything we have been through with this pregnancy to get to this point and then to start to see blood, well my stomach just dropped. She did say it can happen because of friction against my cervix and that everything looked fine and they think the fluid is just normal discharge that increases in pregnancy, but they did take some swabs to test for infections just in case.

I read your earlier post bangton and I wonder if the blood from my cervix today is something similar to what you mention?

So a day that was meant to be exciting to see the little one again has turned into the worst day that we have had for a while, poor little one has been prodded, pushed and put through the wringer, all I feel like doing is curling up in bed protecting her!

We have another scan tomorrow in my local hospital as they wanted their own 20 wk anomaly scan as well, so hopefully tomorrow will be a lot calmer than today!

Sorry for offloading in one go, but I just wanted to get today off my chest.

Can i ask has anyone else noticed any sort of increased fluid/discharge now they are getting further along?

    20+2

Good grief that sounds so stressful hun! I don't know if it could be similar to what happened with me (bleeding wise) but I know when I've looked it up it does say it causes an increase in discharge as well as bleeding. Earlier in my pregnancy I felt 'wet' all the time, like literally I was knicker twitching all the time thinking it was blood so I've had more discharge than is the norm for me. I think I'm used to it now but at first it was awful and I didn't want to go near my partner because of it. I wouldn't say I felt any 'leaking' per se though..just sheer wetness - nice!

I have to say when I was checked today they had problems with my cervix not presenting or something (I couldn't really hear her as she was talking to my bits not my face!) and I had to make 2 fists and put them under my bum to help (don't know if that's what happened with you but the 'hard to find cervix' sounds like a similar thing to me today. )

Did the hospital write in your notes ? It may say something in there about an ectropion cervix. It could be something completely different though as surely the hospital would have explained it properly to you but then I know they don't always.

How are you feeling now? I hope you've got your feet up and are having a relax after the stress:)

I didn't want to re-edit my post but to add I think it's a bit overboard of your scanner to say it could be your waters leaking. It's surely better to have you checked over before surmising. I know with my bleeding and cramps no one said a thing about what it could/couldn't be until I'd been checked over properly, which was scary in the interim but at least it didn't put things in my head to fuel my worries!

Oh and thank you for your nice wishes everyone x

Poor cleofish, sounds really scary! I agree that surely instead of worrying you they should have done some tests first as there is no need to panic a pregnant lady unnecessarily. Before my bladder infection I was convinced I was leaking amniotic fluid as I kept feeling wet down there and the pressure was so bad that walking even after just using the loo would put me in fear of little leaks. My dr said it was really unlikely and diagnosed the bladder infection (which I'm still not sure if it was?) but said it was most likely baby lying low in my pelvis and pressing on it. I'm still a little concerned, have my 20 week scan tomorrow and was thinking of asking if they will check my cervix. Does anyone know if the sonographer will do this? It's really just for piece of mind as I'm a worrier but if it's a case of just ruling out a problem and putting my mind at rest. Good luck to everyone else having scans in the next few days.

lobey, i dont think the sonographer would do it as its not their area of expertise but there'd be no harm in calling your modwife and asking if they could squeeze you in?

Ahh ok, when I went for a private scan at 8 weeks they said my cervix was fine (hadn't asked but good to know) but maybe that was because everything was in one area then and is more stretched out now.

Hi everyone, thank you so much for taking the time and replying. It makes such a difference to hear of other peoples experiences.

Now we are home and things have settled down, me and oh feel annoyed at the lady as well, she just instantly came to the conclusion my water had gone, and this was in the fetal medicine department where ladies with problem pregnancies go, so god knows how she made others feel that day as well! She should have just said something like.. 'lets see what the scan shows first' i think i would have been more reassured then, but she seemed so sure that they had gone and it was all going bad and you think they are the proffesionals they know their stuff so i took her word for it!

lobey- im pretty sure they cant see your cervix from a scan, in the past and today with me they just do the same examination like a smear test and have a look that way, but i would def think about it first as it seems my bleeding today was caused by the doctor trying to look, i wouldnt have another one if i didnt have to. Are you still having any symptoms? perhaps they can tell from the scan if your baby is lying low? which might be causing your pressure?

bangton- thats what they told me to do as well with my fists! ive never had to do anything like that before when ive had one of those examinations though. all my notes say in regards to the bleeding is- cervix hard to find some contact bleeding presented. I havent had any more blood, so hopefully it has stopped now. Feeling sore down below though!
hope you are resting as well, sounds like you have had a day of it going up to hospital as well, have they said how they will manage it? and is your pain releated to that as well?

flower08- i am so sorry to hear of what you have already been through, some things are so unfair. I hope that you are feeling a bit better now that the bleeding has stopped for you, hoping they keep a close eye on you and you take care of yourself.

mrsmj28- good to hear from you! how are things with you? its good to hear of others having to use liners, i think i will def have to start doing that now, but if all is ok, i dont mind having to deal with that at all. I think the tmi line has truly been crossed in real life now, oh's mum after today knows way more than i ever wanted her to know about my lady bits :) and now they have told us the fluid level is fine around the baby she must be thinking im just peeing myself all day! great!

since being home ive been getting lots of kicks from little one, which i probably deserve after today! poor thing she probably didnt know what was happening with the scans and the examination- an attack from every angle! :)

Our TT perfect prep got delivered last week, we aren't testing it just hoping that it works when the time comes, probably have a trial run near my due date (2 nov!).

Signed up to all the baby clubs we could think of after the 12 week scan to make sure we don't miss out on any vouchers.

I don't think I will test ours either, it should be ok! I might start signing upto some clubs then I can remember getting loads of vouchers last time! x

Vic I like the idea of a list :) maybe post one up and its upto individuals if they add to it?

Angel *hugs* re: your MIL. Mine is a nasty piece of work we had a massive fall out before my son was born where DH told her she would never see her grandchild. She did make more of an effort after that but she has known her place since. She was very interferring when it came to bringing up my son but I kept telling her that we are doing it our own way and if we need her ridiculous advice we will ask. I do think that is awful the way you were treated xx I know what you mean about sorting finances I am trying to save a little bit each month.

Nikki my DH has the same brilliant idea about taking APL as he thinks its such a doddle staying at home! If we do negotiate some leave he will have to save up to cover bills while he is off (I earn 1/4 what he does) and he will have to do EVERYTHING inc sorting kids/ groups/ housework/ cooking/ sorting bills etc. x

Bangton glad everything is ok now but it must have been scary xx Mothercares buy now pay later is v useful we used it for our first travel system

Flower I can't see any issues with reusing a steriliser, maybe put some milton into it initially to sterilise it/ and descale etc. We still have our sons 3yr old steriliser but I am thinking of using the £6 microwave one I ordered as I don't really want my son touching the electric one (I will keep the micro one in the microwave) I might still use the electic one though if I can find somewhere to keep it that my son cant reach! I still have some of his bottles but no idea whether they are safe to use/ best to bin or what?

Cleo *hugs* I am sorry that your day turned out so stressful but I am glad everything is ok x
