just been sacked for theft in retail

Your word against his and corroborating business records. I wouldn't say your definitely finished but I don't fancy your chances. Would an argos not have CCTV?0 -

Retail is no different from any other sector - your employment contract should detail their disiplinary proceedures (if you have one)!

And before you ask, I owed a retail store and had £30,000 stolen and it was hell to get the person sacked. I also had friends who owed a 'retail' outlet and their CCTV caught an employee helping herself to £20k out of the safe - they sacked her and she took them to a tribunal - she won!!! - because they did not follow the correct disiplinary proceedings!

An idea to know what your talking about. Yes there has to be a proper process but sacked without notice and theft go hand in hand as well as the potential for unpaid suspension.
The company can send her home on the spot stating unpaid suspension and call a 2 minute discliplinary meeting if notified correctly soon after to sack.
As for proof. No need to proof guilt; just that reasonable suspicion to believe person guilty.0 -

they suspended me on pay but i said it was the manager they should be looking at so they interviewed him and all they did was asked him questions about there procedure for counting the tills,no questions in his statement about the money going missing0 -

they do have cctv in the store but not the cash office0 -
Situation seems disgusting IMO.
a) this means pretty much anyone with a grudge or reason to get rid of anyone can dismiss them on a whim
b) why would someone risk their job for a quick £180 after 10 years?! Does not make any logical sense.
IMO it should be criminal charges, or repeated provable problems (their till etc, maybe on three occassions) = dismissalWanted a job, now have one. :beer:0 -
Tbh I would be amazed if a store like Argos didnt have proper safe and cash procedures to avoid people being alone with cash whenever not necessary and accessing the safe on your own would surely be a no no.
Im guessing the money went in the safe by the manager with some verification (i.e another person or timestamp or similar) and the count has been verified thus it was removed after.0 -

your the one that doesn't know what they are talking about! not only have I went through this personally (as an employer) with lawyers who do know what they are talking about I also work for CAB and have dealt with this for clients - whats your credentials?0 -

no it was only the one person putting money away,no verification,i was doing this cash office job for them by good will as well it is the managers job,he delegated the job to me but i never got any extra pay like i should of for this position0
