Help! present needed for Muslims moving in next door!

I would like to give them a house warming gift, usually I'd pop over with a bottle of wine from lidl or aldi as a gift and just say high, but I dont want to offend them as I dont think they are allowed to drink? also what foods do they eat? I'm sure they cant eat pork?

Any ideas, I dont want to spend much?

TIA

How about a bunch of flowers? I can't see that offending anyone.
  • Thank goodness it was a problem with what to buy them as a welcome to your new home pressie........especially given your title!

Agree with the bunch of flowers though!

They might not drink alcohol, and might not eat Pork (at least they shouldn't).

You don't HAVE to buy anything, do you? Just get a welcome card and pop around for a chat. What anybody moving wants is knowing they have nice, caring neighbours. Greet them with "Marhaba", and they know you come in peace. ;) It means "Hello" or "Welcome".
  • Thanks for the ideas, the wife wanted to bake them a cake, but I looked on the internet and they only eat halal or food that is blessed, I think one of the wife's dundee cakes would probably cause an insult?

I'll take a bunch of flowers for them and give them to the mans wife as a gift with a nice card I think.

moneyman4u... even if you got them something non halal by mistake i don't think they'd kill you. Don't worry.. just get them flowers, smile and it's all good.
  • So long as the cake is't made with alcohol and/or animal fat, then it's halal. Only meat has to be blessed to be made halal and as stated above, pork (and alcohol) is forbidden.

If I got a cake as a moving in gift (being a muslim, like), I'd be well chuffed. Go for it.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

yes, your probably right, Gareth in work thought they might like a nice south american panpipe cd , I thanked him for his suggestion, but I dont see it myself?

I know I dont *have* to get them anything, but because of all the troubles they have I thought it would be nice to show them a bit of effort and welcome them along a bit.

Just thought, should I put a Xmas card through the door next month? I dont want to insult them by giving a card, but on the other hand I always give one to the chinese couple down the road and they always send one back with a panda on, but its more of a new years card than for Xmas.

Oh yes I sure of that, I used to know some hindus so I can tell the difference, the new ladies had the full monty on, all in black they were. I always think its such a shame, but I'm very live and let live really.
