Luckily I managed to invest £50k in time. Northern Rock must now hold the record for the shortest time bonds are available to invest in.

I haven't posted mine yet but I should be ok as long as they get the maturing bond instructions by 31st Jan.
    I shall post it today.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I had discounted any 5yr fixed rates until I saw this thread and heard about the notice option.

No, Melton Mowbray BS had a bond a year or so ago which only lasted a day or two!

Was available for 2 weeks - quite a long time for such a good deal.

Thanks to MSEers who alerted me to this one.

I'm quite suprised it didn't cause more of a stir here, for me it's a very good account.

Has anybody given notice to withdraw or close the account yet?

I think I'll wait until I get the paperwork in my hand to prove the investment - a few days should not make much of a difference! ;)

Yep, gone from the web site but I still transferred (yet more) money into it this afternoon from my esaver 4.
I've been limited to what I can get there by Halifax's garbage FP system limiting transfers to £1k.
I know they say £2.5k but it never works for me. Useless.

Just received an interesting call from my local branch.

They have received notification from head office that money can for a short period still be deposited into the 5 year account if you opened an account in time. Couldn't tell me how long that period is likely to be but it is seems likely to be more than a few days.

They rang up to tell me this!!!

Thanks for that info. I've some funds which should (hopefully) arrive in my esaver tomorrow, and I'd planned on giving them a call to see if they'd still allow me to transfer to the fixed rate bond. I figured it was probably a bit unlikely, but am now more optimistic!
