OK, I gave them a call, and made the transfer which was successful.

The chap I spoke to was very helpful and said that Monday will be the last date on which deposits can be made into this account.

One other diff was that my funds were FasterP'd in.
Try the tranny anyway; what can it do other than reject the transaction?

That's exactly what I tried on Wedesday: FPS'd into Northern Rock then tried a transfer from my E-Saver into my 5yr, without success ("account closed to further deposits" or some such message). So, I BACS'd the money back to my current account...

That money appeared today back in my current account, so following your post, I once again FPS'd it back to Northern Rock. Once it appeared there, then without waiting for it to clear, I tried again to transfer it to my 5yr, and it seems to have worked this time: shows as an uncleared withdrawal/transfer on the E-Saver account.

Thanks for your feedback; I wouldn't have bothered trying again otherwise.

I've just been to a local NR branch and I asked if I could transfer in further funds (on opening the 5yr FRD,I originally gave them an instruction to transfer from my eSaver4 on Monday)- they said only if the account was showing nil balance.

I just did a transfer from my esaver4, and my 5yr FRD did not have a nil balance.

Contrary to my own verbal contact with an NR local branch saying no more funds are allowed, I've just done an online transfer from my eSaver4. But whether it shows in the 5yr account I don't know yet, they could always bounce it back.

Yes, it's a little disconcerting that you can't view the 5yr account online.

Oh dear, Im not a happy bunny. Thanks to Royal Mail, my application form that NR had taken 7days to send out to me, printed with my details, also took 6 days to arrive to them, on 27th according to NR, so despite the fact they had the funds ok , BAC'd into my Silver Saver in plenty of time ,ready, they said I am too late and they will not open the account.

I printed and posted (using the freepost address) an application on Friday 21st. They said they received it on Tuesday 25th i.e. the cut-off date.

Yep there was a post that suggested there was a period when they weren't accepting more deposits before a short extension. Glad to have been of help.

TBF its a postal account, but I know what you mean! I got a statement in the post showing my opening deposits today, so you do get some record.
