I have a question about the CHTC and Housing Benefit - should inform the CHTC about HB? If 'yes' what happen if I do not do this in one month?

    Hi,
Could someone explain to me what taxable benefits are? I was on income support for 6 months last year. If I phone the ssa, will they tell me exactly how much I was given and if it is a taxable benefit? I need to know this for my renewal.
IS isn't usually taxable. See the lists here: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/tctmanual/TCTM04400.htm

You don't need to tell tax credits about HB (see link above).

But you do need to tell HB about tax credits (tax credits count as income for the HB calculation)

how long is it taking for ppl to get their letters back with the new amount?
i just had my letter after sending my renewal a month ago which states that we're entitled to nothing based on that. the thing is i rang them about a week later to let them know that i'm no longer working at the moment, so im assuming im due yet another letter taking that into account.
also, i find it really stupid that they also send a letter to my partner! waste of paper, same address etc

  • I have a question, I hope you can help me? - I opened a business account over a year ago as I was doing some freelance work and now I am in a full-time job so have made my business dormant for now. I am now doing my tax return and am being charged for keeping my business account open but have money in there to pay for the tax. If I close my account I am going to have to transfer the money to my personal account and dont want to be seen as using that money as a 'personal' asset. What do I do?

hi can somebody shed some light on this for me pls...on my annual review for year ended 05/04/2012 it says we will decide on the 31/07/2012 that:the final amount of your tax credits award for the period 02/12/2011 to 05/04/2012 is 2829.96 and your tax award for 2012/2013 will be as shown in the payments section. Now does this mean they still owe me this?? or this is what ive had?? so confused lol x

Hi scousenat, just wondering if that's the annual review you received before or after your renewal this year? I renewed on the 8th of June by phone but I've not seen or heard anything. My final award (before renewal) has a bit that say "amount still owed to you... £405". I'm sure I've been paid more than that by now as they're now paying 61.83 instead of the 45 I was receiving until April.

Just going through our form for 2011-2012 and realised it still says I work 40 hours when I haven't for nearly 2 years.

Will this affect things? DH works full-time earned £36,000 for year ending April 2012. I don't work and have no income. We have been receiving around £40 per month in tax credits and have never claimed for the childcare element.

    Can anyone please advise?
