Funnily enough there was a documentry on BBC Northern Ireland last night about this. It showed the goats being reared, boarding the plane (!) and getting off at the other end. It then showed them being distributed to families and the benefits that they were getting from them. They were able to use the milk and breed from the goats and sell them on. I think these particular goats went to Tanzanir (sp?)0

Don't they have goats in Tanzanir? You would think it would be cheaper just to buy a goat that lived there already :rolleyes:Total Original Debt: £30404.24
Current debt: £18586.16
Total Paid: £11857.74 38.95% :T0 -
last year my sister gave all the family goats (Oxfam, I think) but sent us each a little gift tag with a small plastic goat attached. That seemed quite a sweet thing to do as it made it more real rather than having just a bit of paper.....0

Not a goat but you could buy a garden to feed a family or an operation...you get a nice gift card too.0 -
The Save the Children site was mentioned earlier.
Here it is http://savethechildren.sandbag.uk.com/Store/DisplayAllItems.html
It's not goats on this one but "hairy yaks"0 -
aww I want an alpaca! hehe. They're so cool. My aunts were thinking of actually getting some on their farm -might be nice to get them one of these from oxfam instead.

Thanks OP - sending some of these gifts is almost as cheap as just sending a posh Christmas card!
