If it happens a lot, maybe you're driving too slow? ;)

The way I see it, overtaking might not get me anywhere.... BUT if it gets me over the next set of lights or roadworks instead of getting stopped, it could be the difference between a cup of tea at work, or a glass of water.... Or more importantly to me, it could mean free parking versus £4 if my usual street is full when I get there.

I've never regretted overtaking a slow driver, but I have certainly regretted not overtaking them!!

  • In an age where petrol is getting more expensive & getting the best MPG seems to be the order of the day then why is it so many people are still driving too fast?! I bet these are the same people who complain when the price of petrol goes up?! I drive at speed limits in built up areas and seldom go over 50mph on motorways & duel carriageways? So why are so many idiots still bombing around for? If your late for work then too bad you should've got up earlier & planned better!

Is anyone else seeing this familiar pattern?

I'm sorry but you are an idiot. In good conditions 50 mph is too slow on the motorway. Do you realise the trouble this sort of behaviour causes? You will be forcing wagons into the middle lane to get past you which means the majority of motorway traffic (travelling at the speed limit) has to now pass in only the third lane (if there is one). I imagine this is a bit of a nightmare for lorry drivers when going up hill to.

You are a danger and shouldn't be on the road. Please, for everyones safety, go and get some additional driver training.

Why so rude? That is not a very nice to address someone is it?

It nay have escaped your notice that he speed limits are not a minimum, they are a maximum. If the lorry drivers come up behind someone travelling at that speed they can always slow down themselves. LGVs tend to drive at an average of about fifty-five miles per hour anyway (just a little bit short of the speed limit), they have even a higher priority to save as much fuel as possible. They have a choice, they can either overtake, or reduce their speed slightly.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

For our safety, have you thought of using trains more?

Getting up and starting your journey earlier achieves all of the above, it is far less stressful as well. :)

You do have some strange ideas of what is safe and what is not safe on the road.

Perhaps it is you that would benefit from " additional driver training ".

Lorry drivers have time constraints in that they need to make deliveries on time and need to cover as much distance as they can before they are forced by law to take a break - from my observations lorries will almost always overtake someone doing less that 55mph. When this happens it causes a moving road block for other drivers who can legally and safely go up to 70mph and if it is busy this can cause slow traffic for quite some way.

If the OP was paying attention they would have noticed with this. Why not just go 5 mph faster so lorries don't have to move to the second lane? If people would drive with a little more consideration we would all get to where we are going a little faster.

I dont think so - if the OP was to take an advanced driving course they would almost certainly tell them to drive faster. That's not to say I don't need extra training - I'm actively thinking of taking my advanced test and associated courses. Everyone benefits from more training.

Let's face it, many slow drivers are "passive aggressive". They drive in such a way as to cause maximum irritation to other road users, purely so they can sit their feeling all high and mighty when someone reacts to them.

From experience, the calmer you behave when you overtake, the more likely they are to attempt to instigate further irritation by flashing their lights at you or sounding their horn.

It has sweet FA to do with fuel consumption and everything to do with them wanting to feel like they're the best driver on the road by turning otherwise calm and careful drivers into angry rage filled monsters.
