Ebay sales awful

  • i found in august.... the sales were terrible... so i just did not list....or if i did it was only a few bits......but things have pciked up.....i dont sell everything i put on ebay... first time round, i start my prices at the min.. i would except for that item.... so if i ony get the one bid.... then i am happy with the price......

i did do a boob a week or so ago.... and put some craft items on at a bin of £9.99 and also a start bid of £2.50 and the two similar lots went for less than the £9.99 which was a total bargin at the bin price......but hay ho you live and learn....

also i have noticed ..my ebay habbits have changed.... this time last year.... i was buying quite a lot on ebay.... kids clothes etc.....but now i just tend to just sell......

but at the mo..( touch wood ) things are selling ok... could be better ..but on the other hand they could be a lot worse.....

and another point..... the retail shops in my area.. their turnover is down.....compared to last year...and the year before that.....so ebay is exactly the same.....really.....buying trends..... etc.....

    .

You will attract BIN stompers where your start price and BIN price are quite a way apart on a small item, it is rarely worth offering a BIN on cheaper things unless it is fairly close to the start price.. A BIN stomper is someone who knows they can place a bid at starting price and knock out your BIN, so that they can come back later and snipe your item without worrying that it may have gone by BIN already.

I've actually done the same myself recently, seen something on a 99p start and £25 BIN and put a 99p bid in just so I didn't lose it I then went in at the end with my real bid of £20.15 and won it at just over £19 in the end..

hi.. soolin.... that is exactly happened... they placed the bid within a matter of hours of the items being listed.....
but hay ho you learn by your mistakes......and its a very good point to mse'rs who are reading.... this....

so now..i will watch out for this as a seller, and a buyer...

at the end of the day.. well done to the person....they got themselves a bargin by bidding and not buying through the b.i.n i cant blame them for doing it... but now i know....so it will not happen again with any of my listing...

    but i still love ebay......

  • Have you any watchers on your currect auctions? A lot of people don't bid until the last few minutes. Then again, a lot of people watch and don't bid at all...

I have 9 watchers at the minute on 6 items, but I've watched loads of stuff in the past and forgotten to go back and bid and its run out. Hopefully they are all silently watching and waiting to pounce! and i'll end up making a fortune :rotfl:

this time next year we'll be millionaires:rolleyes:

I mean to make sure, you guys are all doing 10 day auctions to maximise hits... linking your other items to each listing... and sticking in as many legitimate terms in the title maximise the search results?

If you check the completed auctions lists look at items that have sold well and ask why how your listing differs.
  • Yup, that's what I've tried to do. Though my other listings ended earlier this week with no sales. Having said all that I have now got a watcher. Hurrah! Let's hope things are turning round for everyone.

Managed to get a side line out of this one, many people struggling to sell and I seen their auctions looked awful, not very proffesional at all, and these are high value listings, now getting paid to reword their advertising and why not :) ca ching !! Takes very little time and effort, just get the details from them and write an eye catching well worded advert, background in sales has helped, now being asked to do it for more sellers as the others have seen the benefit and prices going up and much more interest.
One day I might be more organised...........

I do more buying than selling (I don't buy to sell).

From a buyer's point of view, Ebay is becoming a pain, here are the reasons I feel this way:

    1. Too much "chinese" merchandise to sift through, often pretending to come from UK or EU sellers.
    2. Too many fakes
    3. Too many over-priced BINS
    4. Postage rip-offs (99p BIN, £15 postage etc)
    5. Sellers who ship 7+ days after a BIN and instant payment
    6. People willing to bid more than street prices (why?)

I now buy through a separate account from selling, to protect my selling feedback (100%) and to allow me to neg the bad sellers without fear of feedback reprisal.
  • Hope you don't mind me asking Lorian, how do you set up a separate account? Doesn't the system pick up that the name and address are already registered to an ID?

I am off ebay at the moment. Last thing I listed was a bnwt outfit I had bought that afternoon for my daughter, picked up the wrong size, and was selling it at a loss. The ad was eye catching, or so I thought, and there were lots of other BNWT exactly the same as my item. But one went for £5 more than mine was up for - one buy it now bid, and finishing a few minutes before mine. Haven't bothered since.
