So what's the debt busting plans this week - did you get extra to go to Next? I am going to see if I can close my account down whilst paying it off - so no more spends allowed and once balance cleared it will close off.

Hi DF , How are you doing? Enjoying a lovely Tuesday afternoon?
Well I succumbed (spelling!?!) to temptation yesterday afternoon!! I was so sick fed up of seeing that charges on my next account plus they charged me for ANOTHER directory, that I paid off my account using my credit card! Bad, I know! However it works out better for me as the interest will be less on my CC than on the Next account. It just wasnt coming down quick enough
It also means that I can put ALL my energy into paying off CC now.
So once payday comes in 8 days I will pay off my OH :T (Goal 1) and Next should have cleared by then (Goal 2 (sort of)) so I will only have my CC plus the two horrid loans. It means that I can make overpayments of £350 - £400 towards my CC along with the £100 minimum payment so if I can keep that up it will be gone gone gone by the end of this year :beer:LBM - JUNE 2010 - [STRIKE]£27,108[/STRIKE] £23,682 (as at 1st Apr 11)

well done on getting a handle on your debts. erm about not telling your OH. if you did then you would be able to go through the joint bills to maybe get them cheaper and so not have to put so much in the bills account each month.....
just a thought

Hi Chev,
Thanks very much for your post. Yeah its a BIG erm.... about not telling my OH but its a decision that I have made (not lightly) and I am going to battle my way through it. I do feel really bad about not telling him and I get myself down a lot of the time thinking about it but I know he would not take it well.
We are not married and he has no financial ties to me and vice versa so my debt will never cause him a problem. If he ever does ask me to marry him then I will postpone it the best I can until I pay off my debt and start afresh.
THe Bills account - good idea - thanks for that - I will go through everything tonight. We put £250.00 in it each every month and this pays for all our food, heating oil, tv licence, sky, bt, electric and house insurance. The sky is the only luxury thing on here which to be honest we both love as we dont go out drinking, or dont smoke etc.

Hiya
Well done on the debt busting. I have to agree that putting your next bill on you credit card is a good idea if you end up paying less interest. And if you manage to pay it off by the end of the year then :j:beer::j. Store cards are never a good idea, but it's gone now, so well done

Hiya

No way!!!!!!! WELL DONE for end of year target to clear them - fab!!!garfield44 wrote: »Hi DF , How are you doing? Enjoying a lovely Tuesday afternoon?

And that is so right about your Next account - great news that you will now be charged less as on CC. It will be gone soon!
Have you/will you close your Next account? I cleared mine a couple of years ago onto CC and guess what - I put another load onto it! Hence the position now. When I clear it I will definitely be closing it shortly after - my only thought on doing this is that your credit file take the total amount of credit available to you and the total you have used. IE may be using 90% of credit available. If I close off the Next aco!!!! that may mean using more of credit available to me as the total had dropped which was the free 10% if you catch my meaning. I am not sure how they work - think we've had this chat before? Might have been in someone else's diary.
Re not telling OH - you know my feelings on this as I am doing the same. Lots of people are. We will be DF asap and then OH will benefit from it in the long run as I know I will be treating my family when DF. I refuse to risk my relationship and upset my OH for something I know I can put right, that was entirely my fault and that I am thoroughly disappointed in myself for. Plus other reasons!
Take care hun - you're doing so well!

Awwww thank you very much for your lovely reply DF,
I'm sitting here at work in front of my computer with a smile on my face now!! People at work must think I am strange :rotfl:That gave me a nice boost plus some more motivation.
Regarding the Next account - yeah I see what you mean. I thought it was just the total credit available that they really looked at therefore if I close the account it would reduce by £4,000  (imagine giving me that much - lol!!!!!!) However I see what you mean that it would then show that out of the , say , £40k credit available - £4k that I am a lot closer to the limit than what I would be if I didnt close it. Although I shouldnt really be worrying about that as the credit report REALLY annoys me. I got the free report and it showed that I had a very good (not excellent) rating of about 940 (or so I think) but I still keep getting declined as my mum is on a DMP and is financially linked to me  Seems a bit hypocritical at getting annoyed at her for that so I have kept my mouth shut!!!!! as I am WORSE!!
Think I will just go and cut the card into pieces right this very minute.
YEah totally agree with you regarding OH. Its my fault and mine alone, if he finds out then so be it but I will not be the one telling him as he has enough stress in his life at the mo.
Take care

Argh, I've got myself into a right dilemma,
Basically I have a second job which I do on a Saturday and its book keeping for a lady. I earn anything between £20.00 - £28.00 a week in my hand for doing it and it can take anything from 2.5 to 4 hrs on a sat. I do this from home so in that respect it is fantastic. When I first started the job it was just book keeping and I would get a phonecall on the saturday with the hours for the wages. However she has now started phoning me nearly every night! Telephone call always lasts for a minimum of 30 mins and can be up to 50 mins long! I dont charge her for this.
The phonecalls are about stupid things really that has nothing to do with book keeping. I get the feeling she thinks I am her personal assistant and asks me to book hols etc for her. Up to now I stupidly have been doing this as I am desperate for the extra money as you all know. However she has now started texting me at work asking me to email invoices etc and that it has to be done before 5pm etc! I have already said I am busy at my own job and if I dont reply to her she keeps hounding me!
My OH thinks I am mad still doing this job and has said on lots of occasions that I should give it up as she is taking advantage of my good nature. The constant phonecalls are really getting to him! and me! BUT it is extra money. Should I bite the bullet and stop moaning and just get on with it. I hate the thought of confrontation but I know I should really tell her the conditions of the job were only 2 - 4 hours on a saturday so stop hounding me OR should i just quit and try and find another part time job??????
If i didnt have this horrid debt I wouldnt be in this position yet I feel this is my punishment therefore i should stop being critical of her.
Sorry for the rant, it just feels better to write it down!!!LBM - JUNE 2010 - [STRIKE]£27,108[/STRIKE] £23,682 (as at 1st Apr 11)

Why don't you send her a bill for the hours you have done this week . For bookkeeping our company used to charge me out at £25 p.h (more now), so you charge her a good rate say £12-£15 p.h. So then she can see how much it has really cost you. Maybe then she'd stop bugging you so much, or would pay you more money. Might be worth a shot

Oh, and if you have 40k credit, that will probably be the reason you have been declined any more. Because you have too much credit already. I'm pretty sure that other companys don't know how much credit you have left - just how much your limit is, and that's what they base their decisions on.

Morning all
Re the book keeping - Rachel's idea is a good one. You're gonna have to toughen up girl lol - says me who would roll over and say "ok then"!.
As for the credit - on my credit file it says % of credit used and that they take this into account when offering credit. I'd be declined anyway for the amount I have, but my point is that if you're using 70% of 40k available and you close a card off meaning you're using 85% of 30k but you still owe the same amount - it looks percentage wise that you're using more of your allowance. I have no idea what the real figures would be here btw - was just pulling them out the air.
Of course, the amount owing would be high still in both respects so chances are I'd still be declined regardless. It was just a theoretical figure anyway
Hope you are both having a good morning so far

That sounds like a plan. Thanks Rachel for that. Hopefully I may get a rise out of it!! Its amazing when I think what we get charged out at at work and what she is paying me!! I have had my phone off since 5pm tonight and it is staying off!!
about the toughening up - lol - I know I should and I say I will but when it comes to it I dont!!! That will be my next goal I think!
Yeah the credit thingy. I have started closing accounts now as at one time I think I had 5 or 6 credit cards on the go. I was only using a couple of them but I havent shut the others down. I will phone the bank tomorrow and get rid of one. As for Next I am going to phone them and ask them to reduce my credit limit from £4k down to £500 and see if they will do this.
Enjoy your evenings
