Linseed seeds

They are also great as an addition to breadcrumbs for chicken nuggets.0

Linseeds can be added to most dishes although I think they are most nutritious when grinded down, otherwise you might just swallow them whole and they come out whole.
I use them in porridge, muffins, bread, salad toppings, even sauces such as chillis.
Grounded down they dont taste of much but add a real healthy kick to any dish.0 -

I hadn't realised that storage was important. I grind quite a few down and store in an airtight container in the cupboard. Should I be keeping them in the fridge or freezer?
As for uses, I also soak them overnight in water with my porridge and also sprinkle them onto salads. Must give them a try in Twinks hobnobs.0 -
Definitely keep them i the fridge or freezer. I grind up about one cup at a time, stick it in a tuppaware box and pop that in the freezer. Then anytime I need a spoonful I can just scoop one out (they don't seem to freeze solid). But fridge would be just as good if you do less and use more often. Kept in the cupboard they'll go rancid if ground and, trust me on this one, they taste like sick when they go off!:eek:0

Any time now, round here [Hampshire, Berkshire] you see fields of blue from linseed as well as the yellow of rapeEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Great to add to salads as well as above. Great for your omega fatty acids.0

I read some doctor's column in a paper a year or so ago that they were extraordinarily good for your inner workings, so I dusted off my unused coffee grinder, and took to grinding a tablespoonful a day, which I just stirred into water or OJ. It was perfectly pleasant. I didn't feel any better or worse and no nasty 'urgency' situations occurred. I don't know why I stopped, but thanks to this thread I think I will start again as I do remember that they are supposed to be very good for you ! (and a lot cheaper than Fybogel)0

I take linseed as an aid to my chronic ibs & usually mix a couple of tablespoons into a fruit yogurt. It gives it a delicious nutty texture & is a very easy way to get it into your system. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
