    Hi Vicki,

I have only ever used them by grinding in a coffee grinder and sprinkling on salads or cereals. BUT, there is a whole thread about linseeds if that helps ! They are also known as flax seeds and they are high in omega fatty acids. Here is the wiki page for them :D

When i did the Carol vorderman detox, she endorses them highly for the uses I mentioned as they are high in fibre.

That is just what I was after, thanks, I hope they taste nice, they seem very healthy and as I don't eat any fish I really should get some Omegas from some alternatives, especially for my son too. x

I chuck them in everything :) Bread dough, pizza bases, banana muffins, seed cakes. I find they don't taste of anything but are a nice addition, cel x

I add a spoonful to cooked porridge and also to muesli. I also add them to Twinks hobnobs :T.

I've got a few free samples and recipe sheets from this company at local markets etc but they have a few recipes using crushed/milled flaxseed mixes on their site for scones, smoothies, flapjacks, granola etc .

It's probably mentioned on the other thread but I remember reading somewhere that storage is important. AFAIK the oils need protecting from air especially if they are crushed. I buy crushed flaxseed mixes and store them in a larger tub in the freezer. About once a week/month depending on how quickly I'm using them, I put some in a smaller tub in the fridge.

I found an idea on these boards for toast, spread with mashed banana with a dusting of cinnamon and then linseeds sprinkled on top.
Was the first thing I ate after being poorly for a couple of weeks and is now my favourite breakfast. :)

  • They're best, nutritionally speaking, if you grind them up and then sprinkle the powder onto things (cereal, porridge, salads, pasta sauce). That way you get all the vitamins and essential fats. Unground they're good for keeping you regular!

*Doh* I haven't been grinding them at al, just sprinkling over cereal... then I saw you should soak them overnight then drink them & the water they were in - much better! Will get grinding...
Farway - I love the idea of planting them for pretty flowers, thank you, when do I plant - anytime?
