    Hi carinska,

In addition the the thread kittie has linked to we have another recent one on Old Style that might help too: Linseed help!

I'll merge your thread with that one later as it helps to keep all the suggestions together.

Fab thanks! Looks like I'm going to have to invest in a grinder. Does anyone have any experience of the little hand held grinders? These seem to be available for £3-5 on Ebay, but not sure if they would do the job. I don't want to spend loads on a coffee grinder as I don't have the space, and trying to cut out coffee!!

I'm sure I've read elsewhere that the hand grinders don't do the job, you need an electric coffee bean grinder

My youngest won't eat bread with seeds in it, so I have to chop them to hide them. I use the chopping attachment on my stick blender and it works well.

Don't try a mortar and pestle !!, you will spend all your time chasing them around !! you may find a small mouli may be sufficient, try this on Ebay

neither are anything to do with me, I just searched for what I have used in the past.

  • I heard about linseed/flaxseed an thought id get some to try, couldnt think of what to put it with (not a porridge fan) so decided to pour a bit into a bowl with some sunflower seeds and nuts and have a munch, it makes me chew for longer (which is better for you) only been doing it for two days so no noticable difference yet. I also make sure I drink plenty of water with it.

To the poster who was asking about quanities - I was told by my nutritionist and have read elsewhere that you should have 2 tablespoons of ground linseeds daily.

I'm afraid much of the flaxseed will pass straight through without benefitting you at all.
this type of coffee grinder is ideal for breaking the skins and turning the flax into a coarse meal. this thread Flaxseed Wow has quite a lot of flaxseeed related information.

I take linseed as an aid to my chronic ibs & usually mix a couple of tablespoons into a fruit yogurt. It gives it a delicious nutty texture & is a very easy way to get it into your system.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
