Pregnancy scan pictures - How much?

we got loads of pictures plus an A4 blowup and an hour long DVD. it was pretty amazing. It's a luxury but well worth it.
Just wondering how they managed to get 1 hrs worth of footage - surely they didn't scan for an hour?0 -
at my 12 week scan in oct we paid £3
at my 20 week scan yesterday dh was late (they took me in early so he wasnt actually late, just late for them taking me in) and the tried to make it last as long as possible but in the end took pity and gave use 2 free pics
£10 is very steep and we wouldnt have been able to afford it or to justify it

For DS1 pics were free but asked for a donation.
For DS2 they were free. As DS2 died I was so glad that i had the 12 week and 20 week scan pics. This is something i think you need to think about rather than quibble over the cost. At the end of the day, if something bad happens at least you have something to remember them by.
For DD the hospital told us they don't do pics anymore. I explained about DS2 (when explaining why the consultant was sending me for the scan) and i got a pics at every appointment (i guess they realised i was at risk of losing DD). Apparently they now do pics at £3 a time.
I am sure they made more money by asking for a donation rather than charging individually. I saw people putting fivers and even tenners in when it was donations only.0 -
I do think the price should be the same all over the country but I do personally think people should pay and £10 is not that much. Surely if you cannot afford £10 you cannot really afford to be having a baby? The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0

The sad fact is that many people see 'make a donation' as having something for free basically.
I don't think £10 is much to ask. Unless scan pictures suddenly became a right as opposed to a privilege.0 -
I think they are a right, they cost nothing to produce and charging for them turns what should ahve been a joyful celebratory event into just another mean minded reason to extract money from punters0

The one thing that strikes me is that my hospital doesnt have a donations box, wether i can afford to pay £10 or not depends where i am in my month and week as well as which bills have gone out. At this weeks scan i would happily have put a donation in the box but as it is theres a token machine so there was no way to put some money in for the pics they gave me as theyre not allowed to accept money.
I still think £10 is steep per picture to ask but i think a charge of £3/4 and a donations box would make sense as some would be willing and able to give more than that initial amount.

By way of background we are in one of three (I think) health authorities which don't do a 12 week scan (unless you pay £200 to have it done privately) and only do a 20 week scan, so they are already saving money.
You should have gone to BUPA
You get a private scan (ours was even 3D) for £80 and get it all on DVD for an additonal £5!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Hi, Our local hosp in lancs is £2 per photo after 1st 1 free - @ Aug 2006.No 12-wk pic shame. This helps planning as the 12 wk scan is most accurate for dating purposes as all babies grow at approx same rate up to 12 weeks gestation. Best wishes :T
