Pregnancy scan pictures - How much?

when we were waiting the poster said 1.50 for a pic of the scan. So my hubby had it ready. But when we got in the box just said donations. So we just gave £2. Does the size affect the price, maybe.
We got A3 with 2 scan pics on it.A smile and manners doesnt cost any thing0 -
I didn't pay either time as I am a midwife, but the going rate was £2 or 3 for £5.
I only had 20 week scans, as I didn't have any early pregnancy complications and was certain of my dates and so there was no clinical indication for any other scan other than the 20 week scan to check that everything is OK with baby and to locate the placenta. At the end of the day, scans are first and foremost a diagnostic tool and should be used when clinically indicated.0 -
Have never been given a set amount to pay for scan pics (and I have been for planty of them) just a closed box asking for a donation to be made.
Mind you, the very first scan I got, OH was so chuffed about his baby, that he stuck a tenner in....obviously I am the moneysaver in the family... :rotfl:Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I would pay almost anything for my son's scan pictures. They didn't do printouts in the late 80s:(An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T

Am I the only one who thinks the scan pics are daft?
When I was expecting dd they didn't give you pics, the scans weren't that clear 14 years ago. With ds I did get a pic at my 20 week scan, but only because my husband wanted one to take to work to show everyone. Personally I wouldn't have bothered. I don't even know where the scan pic is now! I couldn't make head nor tail of it couldn't tell you if it was his face or his bum on it, and neither could most people that saw it!
Oh we paid £2, 6 years ago at a hospital in Durham (which was demolished not long after my son was born, he was one of the last babies born there, I think they couldn't take the risk another one like him would come along lol)0 -
i've got an amazing 12 week scan pic of my eldest, it looks like he's wearing a sleepsuit with a collar and it's really clear, he's standing up so maybe that makes a difference to what you can see on the pic. i haven't seen any other scan pic where i've been able to see where the baby's head is etc. but i suppose if you are there at the scan it's a nice memento of the fab experience of seeing your baby and his heartbeat for the first time.
as inkie says they are a diagnostic tool and the sonographers are very busy. but here they do a 12 week scan for everyone. first time around i thought it might have been because i had no idea when my last period had been (i've got PCOS and my cycle is erratic), but second time around i had been trying for years and watching my cycle so i knew the day of my LMP yet they still wanted a 12 week scan. due date got put forward by ten days according to the scan, then i was 2 weeks overdue and induced with a baby who didn't look overcooked at all. if i hadn't had a dating scan perhaps i could have had a normal labour the following week.
they are very keen here to induce babies after ten days so maybe my area has more problems with overdue babies and they think a dating scan is important for the health of an overdue babe.52% tight0 -
I hated being dated, i was put back by 2 weeks with my first and had to be induced at 2 weeks overdue, they wanted to leave it til 3 weeks but i wanted her out. Thank goodness i insisted as she was 9lb 3oz. But everytime i went for a scan and i had quite a few then, they were humming and harring over the date, trying to put it back another few days, if they had had their way, i would have been the worlds longest pregnancy, probably 12 months or something.
I think thats why they wont say the sex here, as inkie said, its not for our benefit. If i wasnt high risk, i would have refused to have scans at all, i just dont like having so many. It cant be right.
Just looked at my scan pics from 2003, they are fading a bit.0 -
I think all authorities differ. Some don't even offer a nuchal measurement.
We were lucky, we had our scan last week (12 weeks), and they did the measurment as standard. No charge for piccie, but a box for donation.
We have another scan due in Jan 07.
Mind you, that's the good news. the bad news is i live in Sussex and they are cutting back on all hospitals - A & E, maternity, you name it, so at the moment i don't even know whether the maternity ward will exist by the time sprog is due in May 07.
Congrats on the pregnancy though! What's he building in there???
Debt at highest £30,450 (Dec 05)
Debt at lowest £9, 113 (Jul 07)
How much did we over spend whilst on maternity leave :mad:0 -
I'm a bit amazed at all these posts. £10 for a scan picture and maybe a carpark charge is all most people pay directly to the NHS through the whole of their pregnancy - for pre and post natal care and delivery, stay in hospital, gp, midwife and health visitor etc etc. Most of us don't want to pay more tax and pay for what we get indirectly either. There is no clinical necessity for a scan picture to be given to a patient; it's a luxury and I think it is fair enough to expect to pay for it. I'm amazed that people feel proud they've evaded a closed donation box. There are people in genuine need of treatment by the NHS who can't have it because of rationing and people are posting that they're pleased they ripped the organisation off?0

I got my scan picture's of DS free, perks of the job
, i work at the hospital where i had my scans, and where i had my son.
I think the cost of them was around a couple of pounds, that was in 2003 though so may have gone up since then.If everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride then we'd see the day when nobody died.
ROCK IT DON'T STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BE GOOD OR BE GOOD AT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's worth the prize is always worth the fight0
