Nice to see you and good luck with your overpaying. Many people on here are paying off for a less stressful life. Choices are good and not having a mortgage increases all of the choices available.
  • Thanks tootallulah. We also feel we have 'started all over again' in our 2nd marriages...and want to catch up to where we should have been in life financially. I'm 40, DH is 45. Life is going to change for the better, like you say choices are good.

Hi Mummalove, really glad you decided to do a diary :T
I will definatly be popping in to see how you are doing. Have you thought of taking the plunge and doing a SOA? I did one a few months ago, and still found a couple of savings could be made.
Well done clearing all that debt, I'm sure you will do just as well getting rid of the mortgage, best of luck :D

    Hi Mummalove
I was made redundant 2 years ago and would not have managed without mse.

This particular thread is great, made lots of friends and saved lots and lots of money.

Everyone is really kind and helpful, someone will always say when something is on offer and everyone is really supportive if you have problems.
Pop over sometime, I am sure it will help save a few pounds so you can pay those credit cards even quicker.

    Good luck

    OP,

You do not mention your mortgage rate. If it is low, it may be better to save than OP.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

    Good luck on your journey.
  • I would check what yourblender has told you. Most accounts are on daily interest, therefore if you only pay it at the end of the year you will lose out, unless the interest you receive on it betters your mortgage rate. You will be doing well to better the rate you have stated.
I would check this out as most lenders do not have a good track record in giving sound advice. You can overpay each month and not change the regular payment, we have not reduced our payment at any point since the reductions started coming in from the B of E and continued to overpay, thereby reducing the overall loan.
    Good luck with your plans.

Hi mummalove , sorry an SOA is a statement of account, listing all of your income and outgoings. There is one on here that you can use but I'm not sure where it is, I'll take look and see if I can find it.

    Welcome to MFW mumma :)

Just to double to check (in case I missed it) you are now jointly on the mortgage and Deeds for the house with your DH? :o sorry if I missed you saying so.
