Lauren, how many mouths (ages etc) are you trying to feed so we can see what size portions we can make for meals? Also, have you got any vegetables (sorry just re-read and see you havent got these), or storecupboard essentials (eggs, flour, cheese etc)?

  • child benefit took pity on us once when we were in a similar situation and sent us those giro thingys weekly to cash at the post office, but this was about 7 years ago -hopefully it will still be helpful like that now.
if the bank have frozen your account, and you think they have done this unfairly, im sure you can contact the bank ombudsman for help - im pretty certain they act very quickly. have a look at the other forums on here about banks etc, im sure someone on those forums will be able to advise you.
good luck with it all, you have everyone on here rooting for you

Lots of hugs Lauren, i was in a similar situation myself last year. I was about to give birth to my baby boy and we only had £5 to last us 2 weeks. We didn't have hardly any food in and i didn't know how we were going to feed our other two children. Its amazing the bizare dishes you can make with the food you have left. I remember crying a lot and i went without food for a few days just to make sure the kids ate. Things will get better. I sold a few of my sons old computer games to make ends meet and i feel so guilty about it now but he never played with them. Is there anything you can sell? Is it early feb that your OH gets paid?

    Hi there

So sorry to hear how bad things are. I think the bank is being really insensitive. If I was you, I would try asking them to let you just have the child benefit when it comes into the account next week; say that it IS child benefit, after all, and it's for food for the children. I hope you can sort something out; it's a horrid situation to be in.

Can the bank actually stop you from getting your child benefit? Does anyone with knowledge of these things know? Definitely contact the child benefit people and explain your situation.
  • Hi please go to a local church. You dont need to worry if you are not religious. They will want to help. Be truthful I know it can be hard but they wont judge you. I was where you are today. It took a while for me to sort myself out but you will get there. Keep smiling and keep posting you are amongst friends xx
  • Do give the Norwich foodbank a ring - if they are not able to help you directly, they may know of other sources of help. Also, it's a Christian organisation so they may know of local churches etc who can help.
